I was listening to Michael Savage the other day. He's a (conservative) AM talk show host. His show is called "The Savage Nation". Anyway, all politics aside, he claims to be somewhat an authority on Beer having written a book on microbrewing several years ago.

He states that while millions died during the Dark Ages in Europe from The Plague, one group to survive was those who drank a moderate to heavy amont of Beer. Seems there are proteins in the hops that are used to flavor the Beer. The proteins in turn, somehow enabled a person's immune system to ward off the effects of the plague. I'm in the process of e-mailing him to get further info. I do consider this piece of history to be fascinating and feel it should be taught in our schools.

Well, alcohol does dilate the arteries which improves blood flow. That's why you always hear that a glass of red wine a day is actually good for you.

One afternoon at Cheers, Cliff Clavin was explaining the buffalo Theory

to his buddy Norm. Here's how it went:

"Well ya see Norm, it's like this....A herd of buffalo

can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the

herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at

the back that are killed first. This natural selection

is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed

and health of the whole group keeps improving by the

regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same

way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest

brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we

all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the

slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular

consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells,

making the brain a faster and more efficient machine.

That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

so that's why i's so smart!

prohibition and WWI killed off a lot of america's great brewing traditions. nowadays, you can either drink some crappy mass-made beer, take your chances on a yuppie beer, or move to wisconsin (or germany!)

I love that Buffalo theory. It is airtight.

I also am a huge fan of people saying drinkin is healthy. I enjoy a nightly beer (as opposed to a year ago when I was in college and enoyed a weekly binge) and I love the thought that it is healthy.
Gozer the Traveller will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldronaii the Traveller came as a very large and moving Torb. Then of course in the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him, that of a Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you.

yuppie beer = cutsie poo micro-brewery stuff, like rasberry wheat beer, pamela anderson pale ale, etc. there are some good micro-breweries out there who know their stuff. it's just hard to find them sometimes, and i like my beer right on hand!

but i got spoiled on beer in germany, rothaus and oettinger are two little breweries i had long affairs with. every city has there own freakin' brewery, if not three! i usually just settle for warsteiner or st. pauli, which i can get at meijer's for less than a buck a bottle. sprecher's out of wisconsin is sweet too.

sorry laner, you got me going.

Milwaukee's Best and Sam Adams? Is that a typo? Those are pretty much on opposite ends of the Beer spectrum IMO. Milwaukee's Best would probably qualify as one of those cheapo beers someone had mentioned.
