I just got done watching the E! special on John Candy and noticed some of the similarities between him and Chris Farley, both of whom are some of my favorite comedians. That is the question of the day, though.

Who do you prefer? Both had a few gut-busting movies, both had some real stinkers. Both were part of a great live comedy troupe...shows that eventually got real bad too. Candy ruled on SCTV, though! I also bust a gut with Farley interviewing people ("Hey Arnold, remember when you said 'I'll be back' in the Terminator? hee hee...that was cool!")

Tough call...may need to go watch Tommy Boy then Harry Crumb before I decide.

Candy. Farley was funny (fat guy in a little coat ), but Candy had a little more talent IMO. Farley was mostly obnoxious, and tried too hard to be funny sometimes. Spade made Tommy Boy.

John Candy by far. He had a way of looking sad that could be just heartbreaking. Like you were looking right into his pain and grief. He was a much better actor than he will ever be given credit for, and a much more rounded (no pun intended) actor than Chris.

Farley: Remember that time in Planes, Trains and Automobiles when you were walking down the street at Steve Martin's house and you were all sad that you didn't have any one to spend Thanksgiving with? Remember how that song "Everytime You Go Away" was playing and anyone who saw that scene started getting tears in their eyes?

Candy: Uhh, yeah...I remember that scene. Yeah...

Farley: Ummm...that was cool! It made me cry, but it was still cool!

Candy: Yeah...uh, thanks, I think. (looks pensive and uneasy)

Both were great comedians but I would have to go with John Candy.

Sucks that we have neither with us any longer.

chris farley was a funny guy, but john candy was an excellent actor, who happened to excel at comedy. it's a fallacy to not pick candy, because he was so good. SCTV was funny as hell, he was hilarious as the vampire...

I don't think I've seen enough of John Candy's movies to compare him to Chris Farley.

Farley's characters on SNL were great and Tommy Boy is a hilarious movie.

Other than being overweight (and dead ), they don't have much in common, to me.

    John Candy was really talented.

    Chris Farley was... loud. LOL.

I'm gonna go against everybody elses opinion here and go with Chris Farley. He cracks me up big time! John Candy is great but Chris Farley was just hilarious! it was his small roles that got me most! Like in Waynes World when after Wayne tells him to go because he is worthless he says "But I have nowhere else to go!!!!". Its hard to personify with typing but I can't stop laughing when I hear that! Also his small role in Happy Gilmore as the bus driver that cracked me up even more!!!
