i have a '85 FORD TEMPO and it starts sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. it seems to me that it is flooding, could this be caused be any of the following: fuel pump, fuel filter, oxygen or fuel sensor? i have changed the distrubtor and cap. so any help would be appreciated. i don't have the money to take it anywhere right now so i'm hoping to fix it myself.

When you try to start it what noises does it make, if any?

Oh and if you smell gas, then it is flooded...that is always a sure way of telling you that....which you probably already know this.
My brain just about blew up trying to think of something to put here....(Space for rent)...anybody want some?

it tries to start the first couple of times then it stalls, then after that it doesn't turn over. i think i have smelled gas a few times, but today i didn't smell any. and when it was running it felt constricted(if that makes any sense). maybe the injectors? i hope i didn't give you the impression that i know anything about fixing cars.

Try changing the spark plugs and especially the plug wires. I think the only reason you're flooding is from repeated attempts to start, but then again, I'm no mechanic.

I am no mechanic either.....

New plugs couldn't hurt, unless you have already done that. New plug wires as well it is not very expensive.

But let me ask you this.....when you try to crank it after several times does it not even make the turn over noise? Do you just turn the key and nothing works? This could mean a bad battery. I don't know but my grandfather is a mechanic and if you give me enough info I could go over to his house and see what he can tell me.

Or you could just go get a new car....how much money do you have to play around with here? J/K! Trying to make lighthearted humor so you don't get too bummed out man.

Oh yeah and also....don't feel bad anyway. My husbands truck brakes locked up yesterday and he drove home in first gear.....I don't even know what type of damage we are looking at yet. This afternoon when he gets home....the assessment starts.

it cranks, it just doesn't turn over.
i waited about 15 minutes and it started right up. it didn't want to stay running without my foot on the gas.
