My DSL contract is up so I am a free agent!

I'm thinking about switching to RR. HEre's why:

1) They're offering me the first 6 months for $29.95 plus free install and free modem.
2) Monthly fee is $44.95 after 6 months. (I'm paying $49.95 for DSL)
3) No contract.
4) My neighbor who has RR gets 2mb down/373k up speeds. I get 1.2mb down/128k up with my DSL.

Any reasons why I shouldn't switch to RR?

Thanks,
LB5150

It depends on where you live, and what all your broadband options are. I would recommend a visit to dslreports.com - you can find tons of user reviews for different ISPs there.

I've had Roadrunner for almost two years now. I couldn't be happier. I've had some good ISPs before (I was friends with the owner of one I used in KY), and Roadrunner has been the best so far. I wasn't thrilled when they raised their prices by $5, saying that they were adding content. I don't use their content. Other than that, they've been very good. Not flawless, but I have no real complaints. I've recommended them to a bunch of co-workers, who've had good experiences too.

My only experience with DSL wasn't a positive one, but I think that has more to do with the company (Qwest) than the technology.

I ordered RR today. Install is this weekend. I'll report back and let you know how it goes. It will also be interesting to see if SBC can disconnect my DSL without screwing up my phone service! Say a prayer.

Thanks to all for the advice.

I have SBC DSL and it flies. I'm capable of syncing up 2.2 MB, but I don't, cuz I don't need it. 768K down is more than enough! I get a 40-60 ping time on FPS games, and load pages as fast as I did when I was living at my school apartment on the T1 pipe.

Uploading is slower of course, but who needs that anyway? It's not like I share files. I just take!!! Gimme gimme gimme!!!

I've never had a single problem with my RR and I've had it for about two years.

RR isn't even available in Illinois, and why should it be? We're only the last state, and Chicago being the last city to get anything cool.

I got DSL at the very end of June. I was waiting for it for 4.5 years. Cable still isn't provided for my area. I am about 6 miles away from O'Hare Airport too.

Pathetic. DSL was ready, and I jumped. I fly on it too, so I'm pretty much satisfied.

In reply to MikeL with Qwest. I have 3 words and a number to sum it up:
