one of the cincy columnists made the interesting point that the NFL won't intercede in cincinnati because they don't care if the bengals stay there. he speculated that the NFL would as soon have the team move to los angeles, fill that gaping hole, and let cincinnati's market split between cleveland and indy. i don't think that's too far-fetched.

but i think what mike brown has done is criminal. i can only hope the guy kicks the bucket, or is hauled off by the IRS. salvation for the bengals will have to wait another year.

Football doesn't work in Los Angeles. Not anymore. They need a stadium first off and LA doesn't have the money. Even if they did have a stadium there is no proof that they can sell it out. If the team stinks than nobody will go to the games. Los Angeles should be off limits to the NFL.

And what prey tell would they do with that brand-new stadium that just opened a couple of years ago which I'm sure was built with some assistance of the taxpayers of Cincinnati and maybe even all of Ohio ("Oh, look, honey, the tractor pull is coming to Paul Brown Stadium - oughtta be a sell-out for that!")

yeah u can't expect 100,000 people to show up to watch the bengals at the la coliseum..lol

u need people to watch them first

the best thing i have seen in football in the last few years was putting the browns back in cleveland! should have never left in the first place.

they could put high school football in paul brown stadium every friday night, with a satuday afternoon double header, and they would get more people than the bengals. given - they can't charge them the bengals ticket prices, but cincinnati and n. kentucky would get a hell of a lot more use (and enjoyment ) out of the place.

and the NFL should never have let the browns leave. i know the legal issues are complicated, but there's NO excuse for that happening. it's one of the few areas where baseball has football beat. that and the all-star game.

Hamilton County commissioners already want to sue Mike Brown for breach of contract, saying he hasn't fielded a "competitive team"...no way they'd let them leave. the county would hit him so hard with fines and buyout clauses, he wouldn't be able to afford to keep the team...

no matter where the Bengals go, if Mike Brown is running the team, theyll be in trouble...

We don't want the Bungles here. We'd rather have an expansion team than the doormat of the NFL. The taxpayers here are not going to pay for a new stadium and nobody wants to play in the Coliseum. I don't see the NFL ever returning here.

The NFL needs Los Angeles, LA doesn't need the NFL.

Mike Brown should take a hint from Jerry Jones. At least, Jerry finally realized that he can't run the whole show. He smartened up and got Bill Parcells (at least we think so). Brown needs to step aside and let someone else to the work. Carson Palmer is gonna hate playing for that team.

Brett said it best. LA does need the NFL just for the fact that it is almost embarrassing that a top sports league like the NFL can't keep a franchise in one of the top three media markets in the country. But the Bengals are a long shot. There are more teams that are more primed for a move to LA.

Arizona Cardinals-they've already moved from Chicago to St. Louis to Phoenix...this would be a quick jump across the border and the NFL would rather have 'em in LA than Arizona.

Minnesota Vikings-bad owners in Minnesota could make the Vikings follow the Lakers.

Indianapolis Colts-I've heard this theory a couple times...Indy is a bad market for sports franchises (too small among other problems). NO history in Indy, so stickin 'em in LA could make the league happy.

People like to say LA fans don't come out to the games, but that's just horeshit. The Dodgers are ALWAYS near the top (if not the top) in home attendance, and they haven't put out a true winning team since '88. The Lakers always draw, no matter how good or bad they are. Hell even the Clippers sell out now, and we're not a hockey town, but Kings attendance is also very strong. The NFL can spin it all they want that LA won't support an NFL team because there is too much to do in LA, but the simple fact remains, attendance figures for all other major sports here are great.

The nly way that an NFL team can work in Los Angeles is if the dipshits at the front office and the broadcast networks lift the blackout rule. If a game doesn't sell out then it's not on t.v. in the local market and that is assed backwards because how the hell do you generate intrest if the local team isn't on the tube?

That was the problem with the Raiders in the 1980's. People in LA saw more 49ers games than Raiders. I went to one game where there were 85,000 people at the coliseum and the place was still empty.

For any team to thrive down there the NFL will have to change the blackout rule. People in LA are event drivin. If it's on TV then it's an event and they'll go otherwise you get what I saw, which is people showing up mid-second quarter asking which team is the Dolphins (really happened.)

i think the blackout rule is a league rule...not a broadcast rule or a local rule.

Yeah, but they neglect the fact that Dodger fans leave in the 6th inning.

    Never could understand that.

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.
