I'm thinking about buying on of those tapeless video recorders. There are basically two brands - Tivo and ReplayTV.

Does anyone have one? Please let me know what you think. Pros and cons.

    Thanks.

I did a little research a while back on these. Cool machines, but watch out for hidden costs. What they don't tell you is that you buy the unit for several hundred, then you have to subscribe to the service for about 10 bucks a month. Sounds like a rip off to me.

I did find something interesting in Circuit City a while back. They had a 27" Panasonic TV with a digital recorder built right into the bottom of the set. It wasn't Tivo or Replay TV--it was something else. It wasn't terribly expensive and I don't think it required a subscription. Not a bad idea if you need a new TV too. Check out Panasonic.com for more info.

Side note: My buddy has one of these things that stops live action. What's fun is to call him during a game ( he always pauses it when he gets on the phone) and tell him what's going to happen before he sees it. (ie: Oooohhh, Interception!) Drives him absolutely bonkers.

Tivo can kiss my ass, i'm not paying them $10 a month for a TV guide i can get in the paper for nothing. i got two satellite recievers and three VCR's, i'm set. i don't think Replay charges anything extra for the guide.
