Whenever I burn a CD on my computer, I quite often get a lot of "static-type" noises throughout the entire CD. This happens with almost all CD's I'm copying or creating (for my own personal use, of course. )

I thought I'd read about some sort of build up that occurs, but I don't know if that was accurate or not.

    Any help on this one?

Sounds like possible distortion from recording level being set too high.

Don't take my word for it though, I just work here.

Try burning at a slower speed. Less chance for errors. Also, adding more RAM would help.

If it's a software related problem, you're probably using "Easy CD Creator" which is a great program in some respects, but error prone unfortunately. I have found Nero to be much less inclined to errors in the finished product.

Yeh, as FORD stated, first thing I'd do is try slowing it down a bit Cabo! Also try leaving your PC alone while its burning

Does it matter if I go straight from CD to CD or do I need to rip it to mp3 first? I did that with an impromptu Aerosmith Hits disc (ripped to mp3 first) then burned at 2x and STILL got static, although it was the last 4-5 songs that sounded bad.

Thanks for the advice thus far, fellas!

Try different types of CD-R. Some people say that their particular brand/model of drive works better with certain types of CD-R. The difference is apparently in the dyes used. If you've got some time, pick up some single or 2 packs of different brands and see if you can find one that'll work with your drive.

yeah, make sure you aren't using CDR-W

I usually only use Memorex Audio CD-R

and record at a slower speed

I use to have the same problems you are having

a tip that i found works great when capturing video (should work for anything requiring you to free up memory)-before you open your burner program, open your Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and shut down every program except Explorer. a lot of these program just run in the background, and take up system resources. once Explorer is the only program showing, close Task Manager and then open your burner program. this works in Win 95 and 98. sometimes disabling the screen saver helps, any little interruption in the data flow may mess up the burning process. i'm using a slow (200 MHz Pentium 1) old computer, and using this method lets me transfer video through my Firewire with no dropped frames. may help with CD burning too...
