It's a shame. He's no more a racist than anybody here. He was just dumb to say what he did where he did. I guess he deserves it to be that dimwitted, but the way the left has embraced this is pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Hillary is now saying that "One is not enough", as if all Republicans are somehow racist. Stupid bitch.

This is Politics. They take hold of this and paint a faulty picture of bullshit racism by the entire right so that they can force the right into signing in a whole bunch of bullshit civil liberty movements just to prove they aren't racist whether they make sense or not.

Lotts a dumbass for allowing this to happen, the left is simply evil for taking advantage of it the way they have. They themselves have an ex KKK guy from Louisianna yet they say the right is somehow the "prejudiced" party. Good lord. What crap.

There seems to be more of a call for new leadership coming from the Republicans more than anyone. Why would the Democrats want him to give up Senate leadership? He was just a liability for his party until he stepped down.

Because they know how the left will/is/would/ paint it and it would be better to look like they are handling it themselves first before the left can take some grand victory stance.

Why would the Democrats want him to give up Senate leadership? He was just a liability for his party until he stepped down.
1. For this obviously fantastic opportunity to give a tainted view of their rival party and have something to point at in the next election.

2. They don't want to wait that long, no patience.

3. They are anxious to gain some leftward momentum back after their defeat in the midterms and this is their perfect opp.

4. Just like all polititcians (Right wing included too), they are vicious and venomous, lying opportunists.

There would just be more voted back in since its a system of representation. Somebody wants them there and thats what the country is about, representing interests in gov't. It's a good thing and I respect it. A one sided gov't is a dangerous thing when it's not what we voted for.

Granted Contrails, I'd like to see a more conservative thinking public in many ways. I'm convinced that liberal thinking as it is today will ruin this country, and is off to a real good start. But, it has to start on our level first then have its way voted up to represent our thinking.

That or off them.

With the Senate so close, the Republicans first and foremost need to maintain control of Lott's seat. I'm not sure how the process works in MS, but here in MN the governor picks an appointee to serve. I think MS's governor is a Democrat. If Lott maintained his position, the calls for him to resign from the Senate would only grow louder. They were coming from both sides, Seen. Lott giving up his position within the Senate was smart play.

Is the Republican party as overly concerned with appearances and political correctness as you make them seem?

It's the same way--if Lott resigned his seat, the MS Govr would appoint someone.

I felt Lott wasn't worthy of his leadership post for a lot longer--he protected Clinton when he was impeached, and the House Managers brought the evidence to the Senate.

Lott made a mockery of it all, and determined the outcome well before they brought it was brought to a vote!

Okay so I see I have some Right-minded people like myself here in the forum. So I have to chime in on this. As a Republican, I supported Trent Lott up until the time of his resignation as Senate Majority (get over it Liberals...you stole the Senate once...and we WON it back) Leader, but agree that what he did was the right thing. His statement was deploreable. However, if there is anyone out there who TRULY believes that Lott was attempting to promote a return to segregation then I'll eat my own shoe. NO ONE wants that...just like NO ONE wants to end school lunches, kill old people, or all the other shit the Left accuses us of being in favor of.

Think about this for a second. Trent Lott makes a stupid comment, and people in his own party (including our esteemed leader [and a man I am damn proud of] President George W. Bush) spoke out against it, and many called for his resignation. Contrast that to when Bill Clinton committed a CRIME (no, the blow job shit was irrelevant...lying under oath is something you or I would go to jail for) and what happened? The Left EMBRACED him. People went out of their way to praise Clinton for his misdeeds. So, who truly looks like the party of morality in this situation? One that polices it's own, or one that praises the dispicable deeds of it's one-time leader. (Remember, it was during the whole Clinton scandals that Algore called Clinton "our nation's greatest leader".)

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox. You may be seated. LOL

I don't like Lott. Never did. But to be fair I'm a Democrat and have been since I was old enough to have an opinion. I'm happy to see someone else as Senate Leader.

As a life-long Democrat I'm more upset at my party's reaction to this whole deal. The leadership was too quiet, too comfortable with Sen.Lott staying in a leadership role and too willing to play politics than stand up for what was right. The silence on this issue IS EQUALLY RACIST and far more evil than the stupid comments that Lott made. Segregation isn't funny and isn't something to be joked about by an elected represrntitive -ever. The Demo's were too willing to let Sen. Lott stay where he was so that they could use him as a boogie man in the 2004 election. Black people aren't stupid and unfortunately have good memories and they know that they've been fucked by the leftwing types on this issue.

Senator Lott apologized seven times and the fact that the Democrats haven't even realized their mistake let alone apologized shows an even more insidious type of racisim.

BULLSHIT george I pardoned a bunch of his cronies who lied under oath, just to save his ass, and now his punk kid has hired one of the more infamous ones, dr. pointdexter, AN OATH BREAKER, back into the government. so you're either ignorant or a hypocrite.

the only reason lott left was that he was a political liability, and bush wanted HIS man frist as majority leader. he and lott, despite being both repubs, had more than a few differences on the checks and balances of executive vs. legislative.

oh, and li'l bush gave HENRY freakin' KISSINGER a job. way to maintain that stranglehold on morality, dittohead.
