I watch them all BUT I would have to lean towards Leno or Conan. It really depends on the guest.

Letterman all the way. Leno road the coattails of Johnny Carson (the king) and Conan just plain sucks IMHO, but I do like Conan's insulting rotty (don't know the name).

Conan and Leno. Letterman just isn't funny to me, and Craig Kilbourn?

Carson still blows them all away. I used to like Letterman on NBC Late Night in the 80's. When he went to CBS and got along with everyone and got paid 13 million a year the show went to the perverbial shitter. He tries to act funny rather than doing funny shit that he did on NBC. It comes across as fake. Leno is alright, but it's always the same thing it seems. As for Kilborn, I got into his show out there for free in LA last year. Now I know why they were giving away tickets in front of the Kodak theater. What a conceded jerk.

I like Late Night with Conan O'Brien and usually watch it the most. Leno is my second choice. Other thoughts, comments?

Me too. Kilborn is pretty funny and Leno's headlines are great. Conan sucks IMO. Did any of you see where Letterman, Schaffer, and Biff went to Afghanistan? It was really cool how they went for the X-Mas holidays and didn't make a big deal out of it. Most other stars would have made sure it was in every paper and mag in the world.

David Letterman is the best. I sort of agree with Contrails to a limited degree, but Dave's current humor doesn't come across fake to me, just highly subdued from what it used to be. I miss the old, wilder NBC Late Night days and staying up late during the summers of 1983 and 1984 as a pre-teen just to watch him. Still, one of Dave's bad nights today is better than a good Leno show.

Leno used to be one of the funniest, most likable comedians in show business (especially in the 1980s) and was a decent guest replacement for Carson. When he took over fulltime for Johnny he kept that same likable, "homespun" sense of humor until he went head to head with Dave in the same time slot the next year. Jay then copied Dave's wacky style (i.e. physically going outside of the studio to do shoots, doing bizarre comic bits, using props and gags, unexpected guest star cameos, etc.). Leno seemed totally out of place doing this but he has kind of grown into it over the years. And now, he's loud, obnoxious, and grating on the nerves -- a far cry from the more original, funnier, down-to-earth comedian he used to be. One of the only things I consider still worth watching from Jay are the Headlines, which he has carried over from his late-'80s guest host days.

Conan completely sucked his first year or two, but has (thankfully) found a strange, goofy style to settle into since then. He's probably my second choice (after Dave) out of the crop of contemporary hosts.

Kilborn is often funny but he tries too hard to cram wild, off-the-wall jokes into every second of his show. Since every line uttered and bit written is supposed to be as hip, sarcastic, and almost absurd in nature you never get a chance to see what the "real" Craig Kilborn is like.

I'm a die-hard Dave fan here, but I have to acknowledge Johnny Carson as the master and the originator. Everyone owes him, and he will always be the cool, level-headed king.
