I'm coming to Chicago in Sept. for a concert. I was just wondering if anybody knows any good blues bars I could go to? I know about Buddy Guys place but I was wondering if there are any others that some of you might know about. I've been to Chicago numerous times but it's always get off the train, go to the show, then to the hotel room, then back on the train to come home. This time I'm gonna hang & check shit out. Even if it's not a blues bar is their anything else worth checking out?

Thanks for any input.

Shit Rod, I'm coming to Chicago in September as well! What concert are you going to see?

I'm going to see Sammy Hagar on September 7th. I'm arriving in Chi-town that morning by train and staying with Maya Kuper (Lead Synth) for the weekend...

Are you going to the same show?????

What's up BC???

Unfortunately I'm not coming to see Sammy. I won't be there until Sept. 29. I'm coming to Chicago to see my other favorite band....Gov't Mule. I'd like to see Sam but I just can't fit it into my budget. I just went to North Carolina to see a couple of Allman Brothers shows. Then I'm going to NYC in early Oct. for another Gov't Mule show. Plus Sam's gonna be here in Detroit a day before his Chicago show anyway, so I'll probably check him out here.

Have fun at the Sam show. I saw him here on New Years Eve opening for "Uncle" Ted Nugent. He put on a pretty good show (what I saw of it). My buddies & I were out in the parking lot drinking Tequila before the show, by the time we got in there, Sam's set was half over. Hey Rod-

Gotcah- I'm not terribly familiar with Gov't Mule, but that sounds cool all the same!

I'm looking forward to the Sammy show. I've seen hime twice before, (2 times with VH: 1988 and 1995, and 2 times solo: Marching to Mars tour, and Red Voodoo tour)

Plus I'm looking forward to seeing Chicago. Never been there before. Should be fun!
It's cool, I'm saving some $$$, by staying with my friend Maya (Lead Synth)

Later-

Hey Broken--I will also be at the Sammy Show on the 7th. Hope the show will be great and have a good time in Chicago. I am sure Maya will be able to show you all around.

There is a great website for whats going on in Chicago-- metromix.com
It has listing of just about anything going on here in town.

Sweet!!!

Thanks Wombat, that’s the kind of info I was looking for. I’m definitely going to check out Buddy Guy’s, I’ve heard a lot of good things about that place.

Also, thanks for the website, that’ll help.

Hey BC,

Gov't Mule wails!!!!

They're like heavy blues. They were originally a 3 piece but their bass player Allen Woody passed away a year ago Sunday . This dude was a motherfucker on bass, I never heard anyone play like him. Now they're touring with Dave Schools from Widespread Panic for the first half of the tour, then Oteil Burbridge from the Allman Brothers on the second half. Plus they added a keyboard player Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones, Clapton & Allman Brothers) They're coming out with a new album (2 Volumes) that has 23 bass players on it. Everybody from Jack Bruce, John Enthwistle to Les Claypool, Flea etc. etc. Plus non bass players such as Gregg Allman & Jerry Cantrell. Here's some info on the disc.......

"The Deep End vol. I" featuring 8 new Warren Haynes songs and 13 of the world's greatest bass players will be released October 2001.

"The Deep End vol. II" featuring 10 new Warren Haynes songs and 12 of the world's greatest bass players will be released Spring 2002.

Players who have signed on so far:

Les Claypool (Primus)

Nah, it's not too close to any train station ('bout a mile walk from the public transit trains {CTA}, though easily accessible with the buses, too).

Berwyn is one of Chicago's Near West suburbs, ain't no hotels to speaks of around me :

The Chicago White Sox (1901-present) - The Original SOX - Proof

The Boston Americans (1901)
The Boston Somersets (1902)
The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.
