OZZY OSBOURNE Gets Star On Hollywood's Walk Of Fame - Apr. 13, 2002

At 11:30 AM yesterday morning, at 6780 Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood, California, Ozzy Osbourne was awarded a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Accepting the honor, Ozzy told the crowd of over 1,000: “To say that this is an honor is not enough. This is just so overwhelming, with all of you turning out so early in the morning to see my old butt.”

Marilyn Manson delivered a speech at the sidewalk ceremony, part of which is transcribed below:

“Most people think that you have to be happy to succeed socially, politically or financially or that success brings happiness. In turn, those who are eternally unhappy are expected to go insane and or become criminals. This star proves that it is quite obvious that Ozzy has managed to succeed while remaining insane and strangely happy despite his various crimes against man and nature.”

TRENT REZNOR And MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Collaborate On Further Studio Recordings - Apr. 14, 2002

NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor and TOOL/A PERFECT CIRCLE singer Maynard James Keenan recently hit the studio together presumably to work on Reznor's pet project TAPEWORM, which also features NIN's Charlie Clouser and Danny Lohner.

In the works for several years, TAPEWORM is essentially a collaborative studio project centered at Reznor's New Orleans studio, where Keenan recorded the vocal track for the song "Vacant" in 1999. The music for "Vacant" was written by Lohner and rearranged by Clouser, with lyrics and melody by Keenan and chorus and backing vocals by Reznor.

"Vacant" had been performed live regularly during A PERFECT CIRCLE's debut tour, a move that had annoyed Reznor, who made his feelings clear at the time in a post on NIN's official web site. “I have to admit I find it mildly irritating for ['Vacant'] to debut in this fashion before feeling it has been properly realized,” Reznor wrote.

No further information is currently available about TAPEWORM's recording or touring activities, but a debut album is still expected to surface through Nothing Records at some point in the not-too-distant future.

NEWS - Filter & Sevendust To Headline Locobazooka
    04/14/2002

(4/14/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Lollapalooza may not be hitting the road this year, but the similarly named Locobazooka is set to make its debut as a full-fledged touring festival. Filter and Sevendust will headline the tour, which will also feature Fu Manchu, Nonpoint, Mushroomhead, Gravity Kills, Reveille, Earshot, and Breaking Point, according to Pollstar.

Dates for the trek haven't been announced. It's the first time the Boston-based event is hitting the road as a national tour.

Ticket prices will be in the $20 range. The Locobazooka! United We Rock tour aims to bring bands that usually only play large markets to some smaller cities.

NICK MENZA: I Was Not Surprised By Announcement Of MEGADETH's Split - Apr. 14, 2002

Former MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza had spoken to former MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine about a week prior to the release of Mustaine's statement announcing the band's break-up and was “not surprised” by the group's split, Menza told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

“It is hard to really explain [how I feel about the band's break-up],” said Nick. “It's sad and yet, maybe it is the best thing [that could have happened for them]. Sometimes you should go during your glory, instead of draining it and leaving with nothing. After [guitarist] Marty [Friedman] and I left, the legacy didn't continue, it was a different band. I think that Dave did what he needed to do and I support that decision.”

Despite the fact that Mustaine and Menza haven't played together since the drummer was fired from the group under acrimonious circumstances back in 1998, Nick has made no bones about wanting to work with Dave again, and he insists that the feeling is mutual.

“I talk with Dave [from time to time],” stated Menza. “When Dave wants to do music again, he said he wanted to work with me. He said he wanted to do some producing and I told him that I knew of a really rad drummer in Studio City — we just laughed.

“We had our good and bad times. I think that happens to make you grow and come to terms with situations. Dave was my mentor and I would do it again! Things will be different the next time around!”

In related news, it appears that many of Dave Mustaine's personal guitars and much of his gear will shortly be available for sale online via this location. Among the items being sold are Dave Mustaine's Jackson V and Double neck V guitars, amps, rack gear, tour cases, Marshall 4x12s, pedals, cables, guitar picks, MEGADETH backstage passes, laminates, stage backdrops, postcards, posters, keychains, pins, and unreleased photo prints of Dave Mustaine.

    Secrets of SPIDER-MAN soundtrack CD
Secret site accessible only via the CD

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dateline: Monday, April 15, 2002

    By: CHRISTOPHER ALLAN SMITH
    By: News Editor
    Source: Sony Music

It seems the makers of the SPIDER-MAN soundtrack have torn a page form the STAR WARS EPISODE I DVD and planted on the disc a browser that allows owners of the CD exclusive access to a SPIDER website for the film.

It seems owners of the CD who listen to it on their computer CD-ROM drives will be spirited to a website which has videos for Sum 41's "What We're All About" and "Hero" by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and Saliva singer Josey Scott, as well as behind the scenes stuff on the making of the videos and (of course) more.

As for the tracks one can expect from the soundtrack, here’s the first complete listing:

    1. "Theme From Spider Man"

    2. "Hero" -- Chad Kroeger featuring Josey Scott

    3. "What We're All About (The Original Version)" -- Sum 41

    4. "Learn To Crawl" -- Black Lab

    5. "Somebody Else" -- Bleu

    6. "Bug Bytes" -- Alien Ant Farm

    7. "Blind" -- Default

    8. "Bother" -- Corey Taylor

    9. "Shelter" -- Greenwheel

    10. "When It Started" -- The Strokes

    11. "Hate To Say I Told You So" -- The Hives

    12. "Invisible Man" -- Theory Of A Dead Man

    13. "Undercover" -- Pete Yorn

    14. "My Nutmeg Phantasy" (Morello Mix) -- Macy Gray

    15. "I-IV-V" -- Injected

    16. "She Was My Girl" -- Jerry Cantrell

    17. "Main Titles" -- Danny Elfman

    18. "Farewell" -- Danny Elfman

    19. "Theme From Spider Man" -- Aerosmith

Former FEAR FACTORY Members Plan Their Next Move - Apr. 15, 2002

Former FEAR FACTORY frontman Burton C. Bell is reportedly collaborating with ex-FEAR FACTORY keyboardist John Bechdel (i.e. PRONG, KILLING JOKE, REVOLTING COCKS, MURDER INC.) on an “alternative/stoner rock” project at Bechdel's home studio in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, former FEAR FACTORY drummer Raymond Herrera is said to be keeping busy working on “electronica”-styled music for possible inclusion with various video games, while guitarist Dino Cazares is presently seeking out musicians for his brand new group, which is currently unnamed. In related news, THE KUSH PROJECT, the long-running project featuring Herrera, ex-FEAR FACTORY bassist Christian Olde Wolbers, DEFTONES guitarist Stephen Carpenter and CYPRESS HILL frontman B-Real, will play the 420 Harvest show at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, on April 20th. Also performing at the same show will be CYPRESS HILL and REDMAN.

Bob Dylan Shows Berlin Who The Man Is
Folk-rock icon animated, playful during two-hour-plus concert.

This report is from MTV News

BERLIN — Nearly 40 years after he wrote the lyric "He not busy being born is busy dying," Bob Dylan clearly still believes that estimation is right on the mark.

Looking snazzy in a black cowboy hat and old-school Western suit, the 60-year-old folk-rock icon was tireless, fearless and masterful throughout his 140-minute show Thursday at the Arena. Within shouting range of Treptow Park, where he played in 1987 when the area was still communist East Germany, the Arena is a onetime bus depot and hangar that now serves as one of the city's largest music venues.

The 7,500-capacity, standing-room-only space served Dylan well, its acoustics keeping his grizzly voice — and the 100 miles of rough road it carries — right out front where it belongs. The singer deserves most of the credit, however, especially since he opts to enunciate these days instead of mumbling along as he's sometimes done in the past.

The former Robert Allen Zimmerman and his band weren't onstage more than five seconds before he proclaimed, "I Am the Man, Thomas," covering the old Stanley Brothers bluegrass number. Never mind the 43 albums of his own material he had to choose from — this was the statement Dylan chose to launch with, and though it wasn't really his song, the man made it all his own.

Although shy with new material, Dylan relished in the songs from the Grammy-winning Love and Theft, released in September. He kicked, wiggled and eventually dropped to his knees during the encore rendition of "Honest With Me," while seizing the chance to do some lead guitar noodling on "Lonesome Day Blues," only to later conclude in the song's final verse, "You can't make love all by yourself."

He approached "Summer Days" as though it were pure fun in the sun, at one point lifting his guitar away from his abdomen to show off a Chubby Checker-like twist. For the Western romp's raucous finale, Dylan stepped back from the mic and nestled in with his bandmembers to jam. Relieved of the spotlight, he embraced the opportunity to just be a player in the band. He and the musicians exchanged glances like card partners anticipating each other's next move, but they couldn't hold their poker faces for long. With the game so clearly belonging to them, they couldn't help but grin.

It was the highlight of the show for fan Franz Zaborowski, who since 1981 has seen Dylan perform live more than 100 times and who drove across the country to catch Thursday's show. "I loved the joy in their playing," he said.

Dylan's satisfaction with his band — guitarists Charlie Sexton and Larry Campbell, bassist Tony Garnier and drummer David Kemper — was obvious. When he glanced back, it was invariably with a look of pride, not scrutiny. The only time he bothered to speak to the crowd was to introduce the band, toward the end of a powerful rendition of "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat."

During "Solid Rock," Dylan again showed how much fun he's having this time around. Twitching his leg like he could hardly handle his excitement and shaking his head back and forth in time, Dylan appeared fully engrossed in the music. But he wasn't so preoccupied that he didn't notice the women's red undergarment thrown onstage, a perfectly solid rock gesture.

While the only other excerpt from Love and Theft was "Moonlight," Dylan was thinner on material from 1998's career-revitalizing Time Out of Mind, playing only the album's futile cry to give romance the permanent boot, "Love Sick."

But he remained true to his reputation for making new material out of his old, deconstructing and rebuilding such classics as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are A-Changin' " in unexpected ways. Judging from the suspended cheers, audience members were sometimes so thrown off by the new arrangements and Dylan's modified vocals that they didn't recognize the tune until the chorus. Like several songs during the concert, "Times" began with Dylan playing harmonica and careening through unlikely twists and turns before slowly morphing into a familiar melody. He took the same approach for "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right," which, with its subtle beauty, proved to be one of the night's most chilling moments. On the opposite extreme, an explosive rendition of "All Along the Watchtower" brought a midshow climax, leaving the crowd reeling for several minutes.

Among the rare treats were a vivacious cover of Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" and a strange but genius interweaving of "Visions of Johanna" and "Masters of War." Though his set lists often differ drastically from night to night, classics like "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," "Blowin' in the Wind," and "Like a Rolling Stone" have been fairly standard encores on this tour. During the chorus of "Rolling Stone," the stage lights flooded the crowd so Dylan could look directly into his fans' lit-up faces as if he genuinely wanted to know "How does it feel?"

Perhaps the strongest and most collective applause of the night came in the midst of "Blowin' in the Wind," when Dylan sang, "How many years can some people exist/ Before they're allowed to be free?" A boom of cheers erupted from a crowd that included many who have known great oppression.

For the first time since the tour kicked off in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 5, Dylan and company returned for a second encore, choosing "Highway 61 Revisited." Appearing just as lively as he did when he first took the stage more than two hours before, the old codger ended the show driving home the same point he started off with. Yep, Thomas, he is the man.
