This is cool. Once again, they say the energy problem is rather modest. I disagree.

I liked paying 99 cents a gallon better.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX - 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS

The Chicago White Sox (1901-present) - The Original SOX - Proof

The Boston Americans (1901)
The Boston Somersets (1902)
The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

I saw consumer spending was up 0.4% amid expectations of a 0.3% rise so that's good news - hopefully our market will rally nicely today as a result!

Probably nicely inspired by the tax rebate, but that had little to do with Bush. I hope your right about the market.

Anyone realize the gas prices in other countries? Anyone realize that gas has really not been affected by inflation since the late 60's? Do your homework and see me in the morning. I am glad that BEER is still on sale and VH MIGHT be touring with DLR sometime this century. QUIT bitching and have a drink on me! Really though!.... take a look at other countries and our inflation rate and then you can make an intelligent decision!

Those other countries tax the hell out of their gasoline. Nothing new about that.

I paid $1.399 the other day. Any idea what that is in 1970 dollars? The change in gas prices is nothing compared to the change in car prices. What's the average new car go for now? 20-23K? Back in '79, dad paid all of $9,500 for a new Dodge.

How about housing? Around here houses that went for around $100K 10 years ago are going for over double that now.

Gas is cheap when you put it in perspective.

Just for kicks, I found a site with some good information on it. http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petro...s_history.html

They'll prepare an Excel spreadsheet with the average weekly gas prices, or whatever data you want. They've only got records back to 1990, near as I can tell.

Anyways, I ran the numbers a little. I used 87-octane prices from 8/90-8/91 (ten years ago) and got an average of $1.17/gallon. You stick that number into an inflation calculator, and it spits out $1.567. In other words, I paid a bit less for fuel the other day than I did ten years ago. Is that really something to complain about?

Star Wars is a joke people. It won't stope 100% of any missles that could be/would be launched and it is a waste of money... It's like trying to catch 1,000 flies in a large house, with only a pair of chopsticks!

Mr. Miagi did it!

That's interesting about the gas. But keep in mind...we were paying 2.10 at one time in the last year.

When it's put into perspective like that, sure. But why are we experiencing an inflation? That's my next question.

Car prices are higher for an obvious reason. The specs. Cars from the late 70's early 80's wouldn't pass according to today's quota. These cars all have standards that didn't exist. Do I think that cars are overpriced? Ya! I want a new one. But if you asked your dad if he thought the cars were overpriced then, and he'd say yes too. These companies have to make money. That goes for the oil companies too. Do I think it's wrong? Yes. I think the government needs to regulate those things. They did it to Microsoft.

One day in the future, George Bush has a heart attack and dies. He
immediately goes to hell, where the devil is waiting for him. "I don't know
what to do here," says the devil. "You are on my list, but I have no room
for you. You definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going
to do. I've got a couple folks here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll
let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU
decide who leaves." Bush thought that sounded pretty good, so the devil
opened the first room. In it was Richard Nixon and a large pool of water.
He kept diving in and surfacing empty handed. Over and over and over. Such
was his fate in hell."No,"George said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good
swimmer and I don't think I could do that all day long." The devil led him
to the next room. In it was Sadam Hussein with a sledge hammer and a room
full of rocks. All he did was swing that hammer, time after time after
time. "No, I've got this problem with my shoulder. I
would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day,"
commented George. The devil opened a third door. In it, Bush saw Bill
Clinton, lying on the floor with his arms staked over his head, and his
legs staked in a spread eagle pose. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky,
doing what she does best. Bush took this in disbelief and finally said,
"Yeah, I can handle this." The devil smiled and said "OK, Monica, you're
free to go."

The amount of money in the economy is rising faster than the amount of goods in the economy. The velocity of money can also shape inflation.

Even at $2.10, that comes out to be about 20 cents higher than the highest price 10 years ago when converted to 1991 dollars. At the low for the years in comparison, we payed less for our most inexpensive gas this year than 10 years ago.

Prices are fluctuating more now then they were. Why is that? I don't know. My guess would be some supply-side manipulation. The oil companies are out to make a buck, and that ain't easy when the adjusted cost of what they're selling is less than what it was 10 years ago. Has the volume changed much in that time? I don't know, but I'd guess it hasn't changed that much. Were our driving habbits different 10 years ago?
