I remember when I was a kid watching television with my dad in the afternoon and couldn't wait to here those magic words from Walter Cronkite, ( And Thats The Way It Is), so we could watch something other than the News. I fucking hated the news. Then around the time of the Gulf War I slowly began to watch the news more and more. I mean, you come home from work and flip on the tube and there is the war. Now its everything, 20/20, 48 Hours, Primetime, 60 minutes, Dateline etc..etc..etc. I guess the old saying (we all eventually turn into our parents) is true. I also enjoyed Politically Incorrect when it was active and couldn't understand why they yanked it. Anyway, anybody else have this addiction?

I like watching the news, but a lot of it pisses me off. I watch the Fox News channel sometimes for a laugh. Their ignorance and arrogance is so ridiculous it's funny. I especially like to watch that whiney bitch O'Reilly.

I used to like Tom Brokaw, but he's done some shit that pissed me off in the last year. Like his hypocritical stance on the war. After 9/11 he said something to the effect of it being important to question our government in this time of crisis, not rush into anything, and be carefull not to let anger and patriotism blind us to what we should do. Then a couple months later he said he supports the president no matter what he says.

As for Politically Incorrect, it was 'yanked' because Bill Maher had the balls to say what was on his mind about the world and to question the government's actions. What he said was neither shocking of offensive, but anything resembling a dissenting opinion can get you canned, unfortunately. Apparently you can be a hatefull warmongerer (O'Reilly) on tv, but not a peace advocate. It's sick.

Nobody has a chance on the 'factor' cause O'Reilly is a pompous prick who won't give others a chance to talk. He had one kid on whose dad died on 9/11. The kid is against the war, and was trying to debate O'Reilly on American involvement and complicity regarding Iraq, the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and the Bush admin. hypocrisy as well as Bush Sr's dealings as head of the CIA. He told O'Reilly that if the Afghani people should be held accountable for Al Qaeda, shouldn't the US be as well? O'Reilly flipped on him, and showed his true colors. His logic completely broke down, and he threw a baby tantrum, and began insulting the kid and his family. Fair and balanced....what a crock.

It seems the "No War for Oil" factions have forgotten about the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the Pennsylvania plane 'murder', AND, lest we forget, that little incident involving weapons grade anthrax. Oh yeah, the first WTC bombing, the Cole, the various embassy bombings, the oil tanker bombing.
Furthermore, there is the Murrah bombing, Atlanta Olympics bombing, abortion clinic bombings, the idiot shoe bomber, etc.
It seems the fundamentalist (insert religion here) movement is not good for humanity. The finger both sides are pointing begs the question: Who are the bad guys??
I personally take offense to the killing of innocent people but, to quote Dr. Spock, "The good of the many outweigh the good of the few".
BTW-any of those "human shields" gonna wear targets on their chests?
And yes, I'm a news junkie. Blame Gulf War I for that.
As for the people that don't like FNC, all I can say is, "The truth hurts, doesn't it".
And while you're at it, look up 'gullible' in the dictionary. You'll find a picture of Dan Rather.

Strungout,

You're right-on once more; O'reilly is an
insufferable blowhard. The simple fact that he
he thinks he's right about everything doesn't
make it so, it only makes him, well,
republican!
As for you Mr. Cyberfiddle, if you believe this
"War for Oil" is going to be the end of
terrorism against the US, you are dead
wrong; this is just the beginning.
BTW - the only 'news' bit I'm addicted to
is Andy Rooney's rant at the end of 60
Minutes. Rooney Rocks!

I think this was supposed to be about who likes news. Don't make it into a political debate, or judge what news people like to watch. Thats all I'll say on that. Next time, I'll close it.

Yes, I'm a news junkie too.

I try to catch BBC world News when I can, they cover Africa really well. I don't get the LA Times up here any more which is sad because they had the best international news. I watch CNN, Fox News and CNBC. I try to catch the Deutches news on the international channel when I can. On PBS I'm a big fan of the Frontline series - overall the best news magizine on TV.

So yeah, I'm kind of a news junkie.

I know of a good place for debate (when there ain't no personal bullshit goin' on), and it got a little "housecleaning" recently

I've found myself taking longer to read the front pages of my paper since I started browsing these boards, so we get more to talk about since our fave band ain't doin' shit!

I love watching Rudi Bakhtiar (Headline News) & even Liz Cho (ABC) if I get up early in the morning (HUBBA HUBBA)
