It's getting about time for me to update my tv for my home theater system. Since the prices seem to be coming down on these I'm definately interested in them. Does anyone have one and do they like them? Or should I just stick to a regular and more inexpensive widescreen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks gang.

I wouldn't spend the money on the Widescreen yet. Unless you watch a lot of movies on DVD.....the widescreen format is a waste.

While broadcasters will be required to broadcast a Digital signal, which will give you the new aspect ratio.......cable systems are still negoatiating when that will actualy happen.

So if you want HD..........buy a big antanea (sp?)......consider satellite..........but don't bet on cable supporting the new aspect ratio of HD 'til they are forced, which could be 10 years from now.

As far as Plasma screens......they rock. I've seen a few.......awesome. The price is coming down.

Just get a nice big screen.......get a Digital one so you can buy those "Progressive Scan" DVD's......but I wouldn't get the WideScreen version..........

My advice.......go to Circuit City........check em out.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Think of it this way. When you buy a big screen you get four times the size for half the cost, at a slight decrease in picture quality.

I got lucky. I picked up a pioneer 52" for 300 bucks at an auction. The picture is fantastic. Completly fabulous with DVD. And it doesn't have progressive scan. Plasma, while a great picture you lose that movie house feel with it, because of the limited size. Unless you want to spend 20,000.

Thanks that was helpful. I currently have a 53 inch but it is about five years old and I want to upgrade. I really want a widescreen, HDTV, or whatever digital. I just thought the plasmas looked great and they were not as much as I had thought. I dont mind spending up to $4000.00. Again, I really appreciate the help.

Widescreen DVD's are the only way to watch a movie! (my opinion, of course)

Digital projection is the way to go, IMO.
