Leonardo DiCaprio Eyed for Iron Man
    Thursday, February 20, 2003 12:48 CST

Ain't-It-Cool-News hinted last night that Avi Arad mentioned Leonardo DiCaprio might appear in a Marvel movie soon and now IGN Filmforce has a follow-up saying that movie is Iron Man!

IGN FilmForce learned earlier this week that the dream choice to portray the title of role Tony Stark in Iron Man is none other than... Leonardo DiCaprio. We held off on reporting this because, by all accounts, the young Oscar-nominee has NOT been offered the role... yet. He is simply at the top of the filmmakers' wish list, according to our sources.

Iron Man is the story of Tony Stark, inventor and owner of Stark Enterprises. His work in corporate espionage and international terrorism leads to an accident that forces him to go on life support in the form of a high-tech bodysuit. This also gives him an alternate identity, a being capable of a heroism Tony Stark could not achieve.

KORN To Premier New Material At OZZFEST 2003 - Feb. 20, 2003

KORN are currently working on their follow-up to "Untouchables", vocalist Jonathan Davis revealed revealed during the press conference Tuesday (Feb. 18) to announce the lineup for the eighth annual outing of Ozzfest. He also noted that fans on Ozzfest will probably be the first to hear all brand-new material from KORN.

"Yeah we're working on our album now," he said. "We're going to have some new material going on, so hopefully when we go out there we'll play some new songs. Hopefully the album will be done."

So far, there has been no word on a title for KORN's next effort or a release date, but it is highly unlikely that a new album will surface before the end of the year at the earliest. Davis recently reworked and re-recorded "The Twilight Zone Theme" for the UPN TV series.

They've rocked your stereo, they've rocked your TV, and now the self-proclaimed "greatest band on earth" plans to rock the big screen.

The comedy duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, a.k.a. "The D," have signed on to star in the first Tenacious D silver screen adventure, to be directed and co-written by "Sifl & Olly" co-creator Liam Lynch, according to a New Line Films spokesperson.

In addition to co-writing the script with Lynch, Black and Gass will produce the still-untitled movie. The film will be "a creation story based on how Tenacious D became the greatest band on Earth," according to the D's Web site.

A New Line production president told the Hollywood Reporter that he sees the film as falling somewhere between the Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" and the metal spoof "This Is Spinal Tap."

Black and Gass first hooked up in Los Angeles in 1994, making their somewhat unfortunate movie debut in the 1996 clunker "Bio-Dome." They scored slots on the HBO series "Mr. Show With Bob and David," landing their own short-lived series on the channel in 1999.

Tenacious D dropped their self-titled recorded debut in 2001, featuring contributions from Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Phish's Page McConnell. Black, meanwhile, earned his stripes acting in movies such as "Jesus' Son," "The Cable Guy," "High Fidelity" and his headlining debut, "Shallow Hal." Gass has appeared in the films "Jacob's Ladder" and "Evolution."

Though the Tenacious D film isn't expected to hit theaters before next year, Black can be seen in the upcoming music comedy "The School of Rock," directed by Richard Linklater ("Waking Life," "Slacker") and written by Mike White ("Chuck & Buck," "The Good Girl").

Joan Cusack and comedian Sarah Silverman co-star in the story of a down-on-his-luck musician (Black) who takes a job as a fourth grade substitute teacher after being fired from his band. In an effort to raise money, he forms a group with his students to compete in a battle of the bands.

According to E Online, "Daredevil" director Mark Steven Johnson is looking at developing "Captain America" and "Ghostrider". Johnson was also asked whether or not he'd go see "Batman vs Superman" if it ever gets made. "Sure," says Johnson, unleashing his inner geek. "I'd go see that movie. Absolutely." He's hoping Chris Nolan (Memento) is able to get Batman back up and running. "I would stand in line to see that," says Johnson

LYNCH/PILSON REACH THE WICKED UNDERGROUND IN APRIL:
Spitfire Records have put together a tidy press release for the upcoming Lynch / Pilson album. Here it is:
Wicked Underground released date April 22, 2003
    George Lynch/guitar; Jeff Pilson/bass, vocals; Michael Frowein/drums
If you've been around rock music for any length of time, names like George Lynch and Jeff Pilson need no introduction. Both musicians were instrumental in pushing the seminal L.A. metal band Dokken to superstardom during hard rock's heyday in the 80's, producing unforgettable tunes such as Alone Again, Breaking The Chains, Just Got Lucky and In My Dreams. The band's platinum success was largely propelled by the duo's strong songwriting abilities, in addition to Lynch's legendary, melodic sense of guitar phrasing and Pilson's contribution to the group's signature vocal style.
After leaving the band shortly after the release of the live album Beast From The East in 1988, both guys sought out different musical pursuits. George hooked up with a new group of players under the name Lynch Mob and released Wicked Sensation in 1992 while later finding time to prepare an eclectic solo album, Sacred Groove, in 1993. Jeff worked with a variety of other players, including Michael Lee Firkins, McAuley-Schenker Group and Ronnie James Dio. Dokken would reform to record several albums with Lynch and Pilson on board, including Dysfunctional and One Live Night, only to break up once more and send both players back to "multi-tasking" in the music world. Lynch released another album with Lynch Mob, and Pilson continued to work with other artists as a producer and as a musician with his own band, War & Peace. He even landed a supporting role in the 2001 movie 'Rock Star', co-staring alongside Mark Wahlberg and Ozzy Osbourne/Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde.
This brings us to the duo's current opus, Wicked Underground, the title being a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Lynch Mob album Wicked Sensation and one of Pilson's other bands, Underground Moon. After activity with Dokken had died down, Lynch's management contacted Pilson in November 2001 with the hope of renewing a creative relationship with the former band mate. George had already begun writing some of the material for what was to become Wicked Underground, but Jeff signed on and the two continued as a team to create the outfit's debut album for Spitfire Records. The pair soon became a trio after George enlisted the services of colleague Michael Frowein (or "Fro") to handle percussion duties.
George has known Michael for two years, and they met under interesting circumstances "I hooked up with Fro when he came to an audition I was having for drummers/landscapers at my studio/barn. He stuck out because he was the only white guy with an afro, and I liked that. He also had his own weed-whacker." So, is this the complete lineup for the new project? Yes…unless, as George notes, you want to also include "Mackie the 24-track hard disc recorder."
Wicked Underground capitalizes upon the marriage of bright vocal harmonies and rough guitar licks that Dokken fans have long adored. This balance of aggression and melody is found everywhere from the opening stomp of Breath And A Scream to the acoustic linings of Ever Higher to the electronic garnishes of Awaken. Both George and Jeff found the songwriting process rewarding and productive, not surprising considering the talent involved. "Jeff and I were the backbone writers in Dokken, and I always thought we had a great chemistry," George relates. "Left on my own, my writing tends to be darker. Jeff brings a lighter, more polished atmosphere to everything we do." Jeff walked away with a positive impression, as well "The writing was so smooth, very second-nature for both of us. It's like, once there's a chemistry, if it's strong, it only seems to improve with time. Of course, we learned things, but mostly we learned that we write great songs together!"
George is certainly no stranger to the six-string, but did he discover anything special or new as a guitar player on 'Wicked Underground?' "I think I have matured as a player," George ponders. "I tried to be a writer first and a guitarist second. With all that's going on on a lot of these tracks, there was an opportunity for me to stretch out and add other interesting bits to the record, like slide parts and some effects experimentation. I definitely have my moments on this record, solo-wise, but anyone looking for wall-to-wall shredding is going to be disappointed. I try and pick my spots and leave you wanting more rather than hit you over the head with the same language a thousand times."
And what was it like for Jeff being thrust into the position of "lead singer?" Well, he has done it before, notably with his own project War & Peace, but most fans remember Jeff as the often unsung voice behind Dokken's distinct vocal sound. "It seemed very natural," Jeff relates about taking the mike for 'Wicked Underground.' "It's such a wonderfully pure experience being able to actually sing the vocal parts you want. We always had some sort of an 'interpreter' before, which was nice to not have to deal with this time. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but to see our vision through to the end was so inspiring for us. It was a total high for me."
There you have it – Lynch/Pilson – a collaboration of royal caliber inheriting a history of solid rock and forging a new legacy with 'Wicked Underground.'

KORN Singer Re-Records 'The Twilight Zone' Theme - Feb. 21, 2003

Jonathan Davis, lead singer of the Grammy-nominated nu-metal band, KORN, has re-recorded the theme song for UPN's "The Twilight Zone". The new recording will make its debut on Wednesday, February 26, 9:00 p.m. –10:00 p.m. ET/PT on UPN opening an original episode featuring Eriq La Salle, Vivica A. Fox, Wayne Knight and Bonnie Sommerville.

Davis comments: "I thought it would be a great opportunity for me do something cool with the music for the show. I watched 'The Twilight Zone' growing up as a kid because that's the kind of stuff I'm into."

The sound of Davis' remake is "darker toned. There are a whole bunch of heavy guitars and big drums on it. The opening is dark and eerie since 'The Twilight Zone' is a place where anything can happen, and it's usually something twisted and dark. I want to make the visuals pop out and give you that eerie 'Twilight Zone' vibe."

Davis adds: "I've been a fan of the show since I was a kid. I'm a huge fan. I remember plenty of [episodes] that scared the hell out of me. Which is cool. I like that."

The February 26 episode of "The Twilight Zone" features "Memphis", a story penned and directed by and starring Eriq La Salle ("ER"). Film actress, Vivica A. Fox ("Independence Day") guest stars. Also on the 26th, Wayne Knight ("Seinfeld") and Bonnie Sommerville ("In-Laws") stars in "How Much Do You Love Your Kid!" , a glimpse at what happens when the latest craze on television, reality TV, enters "The Twilight Zone".

Stephen King's Bullet to the Big Screen
    Friday, February 21, 2003 8:41 CST

Variety. The Stephen King e-book has been set up by Motion Picture Corporation of America and casting for the pic is under way, with a tentative May start for lensing.

In March 2000, Simon & Schuster released the "Bullet" novella in a strictly electronic format, with over 400,000 downloads recorded in the first 24 hours.

Veteran King collaborator Mick Garris (who adapted both The Stand and The Shining books for TV) has adapted the ghost story for the screen and will also direct.

"Bullet" tells the story of a suicidal college kid trying to hitchhike across Maine to see his ailing mother. A series of bizarre rides and misfortunes culminates in the teen being picked up by a menacing stranger -- a spectral figure who offers a final lift, a terrible ultimatum and a new perspective on life.

    Tristan Patterson Writing Fantastic Four?
    Friday, February 21, 2003 9:25 CST

    E! Online reports the following:

Newbie Ivy League screenwriter Tristan Patterson has been tapped to pen the Fantastic Four, which Down with Love's Peyton Reed will direct. I'm already in love. Weeks ago, I mentioned Patterson had sold his Regulators script to Jerry Bruckheimer's production company (Ashton Kutcher is attached). The screenwriter also has a script in play at Killer Films called Superstar 81, loosely based on the Wonderland murders.

    Selma Blair talks Hellboy
    Friday, February 21, 2003 9:20 CST

E! Online spoke with Selma Blair about Hellboy:

In other comic-book news, Selma Blair (A Guy Thing) will play Liz Sherman in the adaptation of the graphic novel Hellboy.

"It's huge," says Blair, who leaves this month for Prague to begin shooting for about six months with costars Ron Perlman (who plays a demon conjured up by the Nazis) and John Hurt. Her character is a tragically flawed young girl stuck in a mental hospital, after she telepathically kills her family in a car accident. She's in denial about her powers but can make people spontaneously combust, which makes her unpopular with her peers. It's very Crow, very Goth.

"It's a really archetypal, scary movie," Blair says, promising, "I'm not wearing Lycra with flames. I'm not really the Buffy type to pull that off. I'm a regular girl who has a superpower, and I get the guy in the end!"
