I hope somebody here is more computer smart than me or the idiots at Gateway tech. I did a virus scan, it didn't reveal any infections so I'm thinking it probably isn't a virus. So here's what's happening: I turn on my computer and usually within 30 seconds it dials up the internet--this goes on continuously--I'll cancel the connection and it wil try to reconnect--sometimes it will be within 5 seconds, sometimes it will be a couple of hours, but undoubtedly it will try dialing the internet sometime. When using e-mail, immediately after it receives my mail, it disconnects and asks if I'd like to reconnect--then when sending mail, it will send the mail and the disconnect. I'm hoping it's something simple, but it's really starting to piss me off, so if anyone has an idea, please let me know! Thanks!!

What "Windows Version" are you using? Is this your only internet server provider?

There is a box where you can check or uncheck an option usually having to do with the "Dialing" options.

Go to "My Computer", click on "Control Panel", then "Internet Options". You will need to click at the top, a page named "Connections".

This is where you will find those options on when to dial to the internet.

Tell me if that helps any ok? ...

This sounds like your mail client is set to check for new mail and disconnect. What mail program are you using? If its MS Outlook or Outlook Express, you can change that in the mail account properties.

I cant believe the techs at Gateway didnt have you check that!! How much do they pay there?

I got it to stop dialing whenever it wants--thanks No Bozos! I still can't get my mail to work right. I went into the areas mentioned and couldn't find anything that showed it was disconnecting after receiving mail--bear with me--I'm a computer illiterate! Any more help?? It is Windows '98 with Outlook Express.

    Try this bro

    -Open outlook express
-go to tools then options in the top menu
-go to the connection tab and untick the 2 boxes at the top

press ok, get out and try that

    Hope that helps a bit
