Schwarzenegger in Westworld & King Conan
    Thursday, March 14, 2002 12:44 CST

In addition to starring in the Warner Bros.-distributed "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," Arnold Schwarzenegger has committed to two more returning franchises at the studio, reports Variety.

The actor has signed on to star in and produce the remake of the Michael Crichton sci-fi action thriller "Westworld," while solidifying plans to reprise his role in the new "Conan the Barbarian" film currently being written by John Milius. The studio is also planning to develop other projects for Schwarzenegger, who recently starred in the WB drama "Collateral Damage."

Schwarzenegger is poised to reprise the Yul Brynner in "Westworld" of a robotic Old West gunman programmed to be slain by wannabe gunslinger tourists in a fantasy vacation. When the robot's circuits go awry, he becomes a real killing machine and hunts the visitors.

Schwarzenegger has also sparked to reprising his Conan role in the new pic that reteams him with Milius, who wrote the 1982 original with Oliver Stone.

NEWS - Fan Injured At U2 Concert Wins $2.6 Million For Knee Injury
    03/13/2002

(3/13/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- A fan who slipped in a puddle of urine and water at Soldier Field in Chicago while going for a bathroom break during a U2 concert was awarded $2.6 million on Tuesday (March 12). The man, Steven Chang, broke and disfigured his leg, forcing doctors to move his calf muscle just over his knee.

In determining the award, the jury considered the fact that Chang was active, has disfigurement, underwent costly medical procedures, and had tremendous pain and suffering due to the injury. The jury also validated the award on compensation Chang would have for the rest of the years of his life. Chang had eight surgeries and he now has a noticeable limp due to his shortened left leg.

One of the lawyers on the case, David Wise of Burke, Mahoney & Wise, told LAUNCH that none of the award comes out of U2's pocket. "U2 is not liable for any of that," he said. "The parties that are responsible for paying that out include the Chicago Park District, a company called Soldier Field Joint Venture, and a company called We're Cleaning, which is a company that was subcontracted to the joint venture which was responsible for cleaning the washrooms in the Soldier Field facility during the U2 concert. Their insurance companies will pay that judgment."

Wise was asked if after all this, Chang was still a U2 fan. "Yeah, sure he is, and you know what? A lot of people on the jury are too. Because that was one of the questions that came up during Voir Dire, which is the process whereby the jury was selected by the attorneys. Almost all of them were asked if they were U2 fans and I think without exception they not only all knew U2 but all of them loved U2. But U2 is not a party. They certainly were the entertainment for the night but they weren't involved in it," he said.

Omar Benson Miller is Fat Albert
    Thursday, March 14, 2002 12:32 CST

The Hollywood Reporter says that newcomer Omar Benson Miller will star as famed '70s cartoon character Fat Albert in 20th Century Fox/Davis Entertainment's live-action feature. Production is slated to begin next month in Los Angeles and Philadelphia with Forest Whitaker directing.

The story follows Fat Albert and his posse of friends, who come to life when they walk out of the cartoon and into the real world, resulting in havoc and high jinks.

Bill Cosby and Charles Kipps wrote the original draft of the screenplay, which is inspired by Cosby's long-running CBS cartoon "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids."

The Outer Limits Heading for the Big Screen
    Wednesday, March 13, 2002 11:56 CST

Gerald DiPego and sons Justin and Zachary have signed a deal with MGM to write a feature based on long-running sci-fi hit "The Outer Limits" in what could become a film franchise, says Variety.

DiPego has been writing for TV and film for three decades, working on such projects as "Phenomenon," "Message in a Bottle," "Instinct" and "Angel Eyes." The three DiPegos previously collaborated on Touchstone script "Out of Time," and Justin DiPego penned the script for movie of the week "Tempting Fate."

The original "Outer Limits" series, which ran in the mid-1960s, was much loved by fans of science fiction and horror. MGM TV and Trilogy revived the franchise three decades later, first on Showtime, then on the Sci-Fi Channel. After seven seasons, it is cable's longest-running sci-fi anthology show.

AC/DC Duo Jam Out With BILLY JOEL At Florida Concert - Mar. 14, 2002

In what has to be one of the most bizarre pairings in recent memory, “piano man” BILLY JOEL was joined by AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson and bassist Cliff Williams during JOEL's recent Tampa, Florida gig (where he performed with ELTON JOHN) for a rendition of the AC/DC classic "Highway To Hell".

Despite BILLY JOEL's predominantly pop background, the singer was once part of a “psychedelic hard rock” duo called ATTILA, which released a self-titled debut LP through Epic Records in 1970 before getting dropped by the label due to poor record sales.

They already put out a 5 or 6 cd boxset of rarities. Whatever happened to the live DVD they supposedly filmed and recorded in LA last year.
