well,

all of us who follow hockey knew jagr was on his way out. but for three no name guys? wow! just more evidence the nhl needs to implement a salary cap and fast!

pittsburgh is a small market team and couldn't afford jagr. and that's whay the canadian teams are losing players as well, they can't afford paying the players.

i cannot believe the penguins couldn't get a better offer for jagr. i refuse to believe that. they just lost 130-150 points a year.

pittsburgh is going nowhere fast.

now the caps are an instant contender in the east with nj.

Wow, I didn't think that would ever happen! He is a great player but me thinks there was personality conflicts between Mario and him.

I have never cared much for hockey, but coming from Pittsburgh and listening to a LOT of sports talk shows there, Jagr and Mario NEVER got along. Even from the start, you had 2 chiefs in the same small tribe, and that doesn't work.

A good buddy of mine is a hockey nut, and he predicted EVERYTHING that has happened over thepast few years regarding those two, so Jagr getting traded was no shock to me.

As for getting 3 no-name players, rest assured it was a way of telling Jagr that he isn't worth nearly what he thinks he is, even if the team suffers in the long run.
Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.

The NHL needs a cap NOW!! The NHL expanded to fast and the smaller market teams and the Canadian teams cant compete!

Only bad things are comming if the NHL doesnt get there act together soon. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Sad to see Jagr go but if he and Mario didnt get along I dont blame him for wanting to leave. They are not only teamates but Mario is the boss also.

Anyone know when the current NHL players union contract is up????

i'm not sure, but i think the NHLPA contract is done this year, or something about the olympics, so it's really close, this year or next, but i have no idea for sure.

it's not a surprise that jagr got traded, but he wanted out last year. i thought that the only reason he stayed was because of mario's comeback. say what you will, but they kick ass together. i don't like jagr much anyway, though.

so, he went to washington? wow.

yeah, pittsburgh is a small market team, but isn't st. louis pretty small as well? their team is gonna rule this year. i think that a salary cap is needed, too. unfortunately, there isn't gonna be one, or the league will implement one, and then there will be a players strike, similar to 94 (except that was a lockout). either way, things don't look good except for the following teams:
NYR
colorado
detroit
dallas
all 3 california teams
new jersey
gary bettman's pocket

I believe the contract expires after the 2003-2004 season.

Do you guys think Adam Oates will still want out of Washington now that they hace acquired Jagr?

I can't believe they got 2 centers in the deal! Everybody on earth knows the Pens need defensive help.

At least now they'll should have enough money left over to sign Kovalev and Lang.

Awful trade for Pitt., and the NHL.

i think adam oates will be an interesting story. i was just thinking to myself that they would have a pretty good team though, with the both of them, especially with brett hull.

pretty funny that pittsburgh only got three minor league players though. mario isn't sleeping well right now, i bet.

you're right about kovalev and lang though. they're underrated, imo.

i see hull going to pittsburgh. unlike jagr, hull plays hard all the time.

if u hit jagr and play him tough, he whines.

i would love to see hull in pittsburgh. he'd be a great fit with mario.

I read Today that Hull might be going to Montreal, at least he was talking to them. That would be kool. I would love to see him in a Habs Jersey. I wish the Montreal franchise could be more competitive.

The NHL needs to share the wealth with the struggling Canadian teams.

i just can't see hull going to montreal. he's gonna want a shot at one more cup. and i cannot see mario not signing him, he needs help.

they also need defense, they should resign kasperaitis, but he may be going back to the isles. i have no idea why he would want to do that...LOL
