Van Gully (& others who may be interested):

There's a book called "Ironclaw" by Sherman Baldwin. It's about a carrier pilot's first cruise with his EA-6B squadron in the Gulf War.

I knew him when both of us were based out of Whidbey Island WA (where the EP-3 is also based), for 9-10 months. Ironclaw is his squadron call sign. He's an Ivy League grad (Yale), but he's one of the more humble people I've met in my life.

Can't believe this slipped my mind all this time!

You might be able to pick it up in paperback in the stores (military history sections), if not, it's available online.

I just finished "Prophet of the Sandlots".

If you like baseball, even just a little, check it out. It's a pretty easy read. It's a year in the life of a baseball scout, the same one who signed Mike Schmidt and Fergie Jenkins.

i saw the special they did about it on PRIMETIME, looks pretty interesting.

I'm interested in reading that book. I just started reading a book on him called One Of Us, written a couple of years ago.

Early on it mentions that he was a Van Halen fan.

I went to Crown Books after work Friday to check out their Going Out of Business Sale.

I got me a Crazy From The Heat in paperback!! It's cool & sad--cool that I got it, but sad that it was available for $2.80--Dave's worth much more than that! I read it a few years back, but now that I browse here & other places regularly, it's almost like having an "encyclopedia" on hand!

Black hawk Down is a great book. Its all a true story which is why you get sucked in. A mst read for any Red Blooded American. I stick to political books. I am currently reading Jesse Ventura's second book(Title excapes me) Its a real honest opinion on evrything in the politacal world. he says everything most people are thinking or already know, but don't have the guts to say. Especially one how is a Governor. I find his opinions refreshing.

I just finished the epic saga "Transact-SQL Programming" from O'Reilly. Although a little wordy, the plot movement and character development were awesome. I especially liked the tensions between "Permissions" and "Rules", as well as all the dialog with "Extended Stored Procedures".

laner, it doesn't have to be a novel to be posted in this thread. It can be any form of reading material. Hell, it could be the ingredients on a Cracker Jack box if that's what you think is an interesting read.

Glad to see the variety in people's reading choices.
I love to read, the library is one my favorite places to go.
Recent reads -

Bear and the Dragon - I've read ( skim through the techno stuff )all of Clancy's books and now want to read Black Hawk Down based on the comments.

I've read most of the Left Behind Series, but they're getting a bit too preachy. Again based on the comments, will check out the Christ Clones trilogy ( I think that's it )

I also like to read personal finance books,
one of the best I've read recently is
Delete your Broker Dot Com by Christopher Byron - He's kinda caustic and really explains kinda boring stuff in an interesting way. All the Motley Fool Books are pretty good too.

Big impacts on me -
Lord of the Rings
All the Carlos Castaneda Books
All the Conversations With God Books

Other suggested reads
Crazy from the Heat - DLR
Divine Intervention - ( Dan Millman )

Great thread, keep posting - I read The Martian Chronicles about ten years ago and need to get back into some of the Bradbury stuff.

Peace~GH4L

Finished reading a couple of books last week. "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding and "The House on the Borderland" by William Hope Hodgson.

"The House on the Borderland" is a trip. For all of you who like bizzare supernatural thillers this book is for you. Especially if you are a fan of H.P. Lovecraft's writing; then this book will be right up your reading alley. It was written in 1908. I read somewhere that this book inspired Lovecraft to write the type of stories that he did. Anyways it is very bizzare but a very fast and easy read.
