Ok people lets talk reading here. Lets talk about literature. Everything from novels/short stories to the latest in Penthouse forumn or Hustler. Tell us all what you have read and how or if it affected you. I'll start.

Hannibal: The movie thread got me thinking about this novel. I read this about a year and half ago. I've read Harris's two other books with Hannibal(Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs) and was stoke when this book came out. Let me tell ya I was very disappointed with this piece of work. It was nothing but a gore feast and Clarice had a personality changed since the last book. Fans had to wait 7 or 8 years for Thomas Harris to come out with this novel. Maybe he should have took 8 more years to make sure he had a decent story thought out.

Other books I've read in the past year or so: To Kill a Mocking Bird, Brave New World, My Ishmael, Ghost Story, A River Runs Through It, The Christ Clone Triology, The Regulators, In Search of the Warrior Spirit, I am Legend.

If you have comments on these or other works you have read please comment. I figure we discuss everything else on the Links we might as well talk some about literature. This is my favorite art form, above all others, including music, movies, and T.V.(I'm not sure if this is really art but I'm sure some people could argue that it is).

I await the responses or the moderators to close this thread.

I've always got to have a book on the go, but I'm not a fiction reader at all. For some reason, I can't get into it (television has probably dulled my imagination too much, we are one nation under cable after all).

    Recently I've read

    Dirty Jokes and Beer-Drew Carey
    The Rants-Dennis Miller
    KISS and Sell-C.K. Lendt
The Who's Tommy-A book about them staging the Broadway show
    Walk This Way-Stephen Davis
    Behind Blue Eyes-Geoffrey Guiliano
    The Beatles Anthology-The Beatles
Light My Fire-Ray Manzare (what a windbag this guy is)
Helter Skelter-Vincent Bugliosi (my favorite book, I read it a couple of times every year)
    Lennon in America-Geoffrey Guiliano

My favorite books are biographies regarding rock bands (Big surprised here)

Walk This Way is an EXCELLENT book...
The Beatles Anthology is great too...Hell I have a number of different Beatles books, another great one is A Day In The Life.

    I've also read bios on:

    The Grateful Dead
    The Rolling Stones
David Lee Roth Crazy From The Heat
    The Who
    Pink Floyd
    Elvis Presley
    Buddy Holly
    The Clash
    Little Richard
    B.B. King

Right now I am reading the hardcopy book by Ken Burns entitled Jazz. It's based after the PBS series called Jazz. It's really good

    EEeeeewwwwwww.

I havn't read one in a long time now. Unless Data Warehouse books count.

The last one I read was Atlas Shrugged by Aynn Rand. Also the Fountainhead. (Highly recommended for MikeL and Ford)

You actually managed to finish "The Bear and the Dragon"? I LOVE Tom Clancy, but that book was so dry and dull I couldn't get through it...and who the HELL uses the slang "'puters" for computers???

Clancy is a drunk idiot and has fanatizies about being an Admiral in the Navy. God how I hate seeing his picture on the back of his books. Always dressed up in Navy garb and he never served in any branch of the military. A poser in my book. He may do good research but I've seen him on talk shows and he tries to give the impression that he has inside sources at the Pentagon and else where in the military. He doesn't. This sorry bastard used to sell insurance(nothing wrong with that by the way) and 99% of the info. he uses in his books anyone could find in those Jane's books on different militaries/weapon systems of the world. Being a military man myself; this guy makes me sick.

NE169 mentioned a great book if you are interested in real military exploits, not that made up hokey shit Clancy vomits up every year or so, and that is "Black Hawk Down". This is a very intense look into when our best troops get into some deep shit(mainly due to Washington not giving them what they needed to get the job done)and despite the odds and bureucracy against them, succeed, though at a high cost. Great book.

    Goo,

Nothings wrong. You guys do a great job here. I have no complaints what-so-ever. I just wasn't sure if this thread would be interesting to anyone. I mean we do have that high-brow nut scratching/grabbing thread going on in Main discussions(I'm guilty of posting on that thread too); I just wasn't sure people could tear themselves away and this thread would just rot away on the vine.

So no problem here. I love this place.

Its always possible for it to "rot on the vine". I've had plenty topics I post drop like whale shit. But if it aint music related, and its not offensive or pornographic, this is a perfectly suitable place for any thread like this. If it rots, fine, but I for one, wont close anything unless its just not tastefull or it goes against Bretts (or the company that hosts the server/site) policies for posting.

Anyways, back on topic, I also finished the last of the foxfire books. Survivalist type old school making soap from pig lard type stuff

I just finished the latest "Brotherhood Of War" novel. I know its not the highest caliber stuff, but I just eat it up!

Anyone ever read any of those serial novels like The Destroyer, The Executioner, etc.? I used to read em all the time as a kid, but when I tried to read one recently, I couldnt stomach it. Sort of like when you watch "Three's Company" on late night TV and its not half as funny as you remember.
