Zack Snyder Directing Dawn of the Dead Remake
    Thursday, March 6, 2003 12:15 CST

Strike Entertainment has set commercials wizard Zack Snyder to direct the remake of George Romero's horror classic Dawn of the Dead, digging up a June start date for the zombie redo, says Variety. The film is Strike's first go project since it struck a four-year production and co-financing deal at Universal, who will distribute the film in North America and most of the world.

James Gunn (Scooby-Doo) has scripted a reinvention of a 1979 film that cost $640,000 and became a highly profitable cult favorite. The film revolved around a swarm of slow-moving cannibalistic corpses who snack on the inhabitants of a shopping mall.

The contemporized version aims to place a greater emphasis on action and a young cast than the original, adds the trade. The film was Romero's sequel to the groundbreaking Night of the Living Dead.

Kelly Hu Talks Jade & X3
    Wednesday, March 5, 2003 10:10 CST

Kelly Hu, who stars as Deathstrike in X-2, tells E! Online that she hopes the adaptation of Jade, about the 4000-year-old vampire and sorceress, happens...

"I really, really hope that it comes through because I'm really excited about it," Hu says. "It's in development at the moment, but I don't think I can start talking about it because anything could happen."

And will she return if a third X-Men movie is made? "I certainly hope so!" Hu adds. "I've already signed a contract. Whether or not they have me come back is another story, but I'd love to."

Dave Matthews Band took in more money for touring last year than any other band, raking in $54.8 million in sales, and for good reason. The perennial road warriors are summer concert staples, lining up and selling out major tours nearly every year. This summer looks to be no different.

The band will launch a 54-date road trip beginning June 17 in Columbus, Ohio. The itinerary, released Wednesday (March 5) on the band's Web site, includes many two-night stands in markets like Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Seattle and New York, among others. The trek stretches until an Atlanta stop on September 20.

Tickets will be available for DMB fans through Warehouse, the band's official fan club, beginning Thursday, while tickets will go on sale to the public for most shows on March 29, with several of the later dates going on sale April 5.

Later this month, Dave Matthews begins an acoustic tour with road buddy Tim Reynolds . That trek will hit East Coast cities and college campuses before calling it quits in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in early April.

Kristin from E News Live says she's got it on good authority that Jerry O'Connell is being looked at to play Superman. The show announced the news on yesterday's program, remarking on how fans of Connell's "Crossing Jordan" have been missing his absence for the past weeks. They then came up with the news that he might be the new Superman - so don't go missing him too much just yet. Could be just another rumour of a rumour of a rumour...or could it?

SYSTEM OF A DOWN Singer, AUDIOSLAVE Guitarist Launch Radio Show - Mar. 6, 2003

SYSTEM OF A DOWN's Serj Tankian and AUDIOSLAVE's Tom Morello, who joined forces to form the socio-political organization Axis Of Justice, have launched their radio show, which they hope to broadcast nationally. Tankian, who co-hosts the show with Morello, spoke about it in a recent interview.

"We are actually going to launch our first radio program, Axis Of Justice Radio Syndicate or something like that," Serj said. "We just taped three shows that we are going to put out. And we're doing interviews with really interesting socially involved people, politically involved people, and playing some good rebel music or socially motivated music from THE CLASH to BOB DYLAN to BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN to, you know, BILLY BRAGG, to SYSTEM OF A DOWN to whatever... RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. So it's a really interesting fun thing."

Tankian is impressed with Morello's on-air ability. "Tom's really good at it too. I'm not good at the radio personality thing. He's just, like, on. He's like, 'Hey, so...' It's great. I'm like the Ed McMahon kind of laughing on the side, going, 'Haw, haw, haw, haw."

Schneider Aboard Sandler's 50 First Kisses
    Thursday, March 6, 2003 8:11 CST

Collaborating once again with his longtime friend, Rob Schneider will star opposite Adam Sandler in Columbia Pictures' 50 First Kisses for director Peter Segal, says The Hollywood Reporter. The project, which also stars Drew Barrymore, aims to go into production in the spring.

Since working together on "Saturday Night Live," Schneider and Sandler have worked with each other on numerous Sandler-toplined comedies.

"Kisses" is about a man (Sandler) who falls in love with a woman (Barrymore) after a memorable encounter but finds out that she has short-term memory loss. Because she has no idea who he is, he has to get her to fall in love with him all over again every day. Schneider will play Ula, the Hawaiian best friend to Sandler's character.

George Wing wrote the original script, which was rewritten by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel.
