-I was born in the USA
-A movie was made about my very special creation
-My last name is the same as a well known NRL Identity (Australias National Rugby League competiton- I'll have to confirm this when someone suggests a name)

Cryptic Clues

Have a dickens of a day

I am not the following:

-Henry Ford

I'm no closer to figuring this out now than I was when I first read it almost an hour ago!

One thought I did have was Charles Schulz - had his first drawing published in 1937, born in the USA, male, "Have a "Dickens" (Charles) of a day", "Have a "comical" ("Peanuts") day", movies included "Snoopy Come Home" - don't know about the NRL thing. However, he was born in 1922 - don't know if that qualifies as the "start of the last century" and I don't know about him being "long passed on" - he only left us in 2000.

None of those fit the 'NRL player' question, unfortunately. One that did that I came up with was Roy Rogers, but he really didnt have a 'creation' and only died in 98. Doesnt quite fit.

Well, that's the sticking point - but it doesn't say it's a player - says it's an "identity" - could be a coach, announcer, ref, hell a team nickname for all we know! I've looked at the team names and cities, the top scorers for most teams - no names that stick out at me. But I don't know who the all-time stars are or anything like that. I still think the "dickens" thing is meant to either imply a: - the person's name is "Charles" or b: - he appeared in an adaption of one of Dicken's novels. Could be wrong, though.

i was thinking much the same about the dickens adaptations.

I'm not a huge rugby league fan, so I'm not really able to chuck out a few famous names. I can run 'em by mrs goo though, shes got a better knowledge.

Seems to me whoever this is done one thing that overshadows all his other work. Another train of thought I followed was possibly something like the guy who came up with colour cinema technology - that really broke in the 30's I think.

It's a tough one.

Hey Goo, Charles Dickens was the author of The Tales of Two Cities, that created Superman. It became famous in the 30's. Could that be the guy?

I dont think its that obvious mate, the dickens clue is a cryptic - it's unlikely to be that direct.

I had wondered about the guy that wrote or conceived the superman character though - any comic buffs know this one?

whats the connection between tale of 2 cities and superman BTW? I'm pretty ignorant of both these subjects

Thanks Kasi

Yeah, it wouldn't be that obivous would it? I just read that the plot for Superman is set to the premise of The Tales of Two Cities, so that's how they are linked. Hope it helps
