I have been predicting this since the first day I saw the preview! Another WW2 movie that has awesome cinematography & little else. Besides, Ben Affleck is in it. (The guy who rode the wave of Matt Damon's talent & has starred in every crappy movie offered to him...Forces of Nature, Reindeer Games, etc...) He's the reason I stay away from a movie.

But I haven't seen it yet, so I won't give my critique yet. But here's a link to an article I found particularly interesting.

I got the impression it was another "Saving Private Ryan" but now I'm hearing it's a love story. I think I'm gonna see it tonight anyway.

The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

I'm seeing it Saturday with some friends. I've fully expected it to suck since I saw the first commercials for it.

Anything hyped that much released at a KEY holiday weekend is inherently awful.

I saw it and thought it was great. People at the Dome are saying it's boring and shit and I thought it was great. People like FORD and FanHalen are two losers who have nothing better to do than rip everything. They have no appreciation of the WW2 vets or any vets for that matter. Both of my Grandfathers were in major battles in Europe, and it makes me tingle when I see Saving Private Ryan, know my Grandfather invaded on his 20th birthday, and I'm very proud of him, and all the vets that served. We live in a country that we all take for granted because of these brave people.

So next time asshole FORD wants to rip this country, he can think about his pussy old man who probably fled to Canada instead of give their life to provide for people like FORD who just take it all for granted!

Canada was an important country back then.

Do they treat the subject well in the film? Enemy At The Gates is the best war film I've seen in some time, but they made the Germans seem much more polished then they really were, and the Russians much more inept than they really were (at that time).

Well I just came back from seeing it and I'll tell you--I was worried due to all the bad reviews, but my fears were relieved. I thought it was a GREAT movie!....I may go see it again!

Who's planes were they flying? I'll give you a clue bud....they had a "USA" on them. And that goes from Britain as well. They flew our planes and shot our guns well before we entered the war. Canada! GO! Maybe you can use those sharp flying skills to declare independence like the States did over 225 years ago!

I will see the movie, but does the Pearl Harbor story really NEED a love angle...??? The real story is gripping enough...

For those of you who haven't been to Pearl, you should go...

A few facts:
1. The hulk of the Arizona still leaks oil and the men entombed include 3 sets of brothers and one FATHER WITH HIS TWO SONS.
2. Japanese tourists are all over that place...they go to pay their respects because the Japanese gov't lied to them and said we provoked the attack...
3. If you go to Hickam and Wheeler Fields, the bullet strafing in the buildings was NEVER reapired. They take the newbies out and show them the strafing as a reminder of what happens when you aren't prepared and we were not...

If you want the best book on Pearl and the time before and after, read Walter Lord's 'Day of Infamy.' Lord also wrote about the wreck of the Titanic and he was a great historian...'A Night to Remember' is the title of his Titanic book...

That's quite a misrepresentation of the facts. Canadian and British units used equipment of largely British make through most of the early war. Tanks, aircraft (other than a small number of Bostons), field guns, and small arms were all of British manufacture during the time before US entry into the war. Even after that, most of their TOE was British.

I've got no problem with being rah-rah about American involvement in the war, but we need to have our facts straight.

Canada did make huge contributions during the war, well out of proportion to their population. To say otherwise is to be lying, ignorant, or both.
