This is a bit late but...

Did anyone see this movie last week? I went to see it with my wife, mostly because I used to be a huge Tom Clancy reader, back in the old days, before he sold his ball sack on Ebay and started writing horseshit. But that's another story.

Anyways, my wife liked it, and really, as a movie, it wasn't completely terrible, mostly because I made myself forget that the story originaly started out as a great novel.

Now that I have read some reviews on this movie, im putting my foot down. This movie sucked ass in my book. Neo-Nazis, what the fuck?! Talk about a total puss out! And don't get me started about the ending, they go through a nuclear explosion, where at least 10,000 people die, and an untold amount of people with radiation sickness, and there sitting there having a picknick! This movie ended like it was a freshly wrapped Christmas present! Total shit!

I actually wonder if the makers of this crap actually read the original story, it didn't seem so.

Anyways, those of you who seen this, what did you think. Especially the ones who didn't read the original novel.

Between Ben "Not Exactly The Brightest Kid On The Block" Affleck playing a CIA agent and the "total puss out" script changes, I decided to pass on this one.

I was going to wait until it hit the rental shelves--but perhaps I'll pass on that too...

Here's a review from The Weekly Standard that mirrors your assessment of the film:

It Doesn't Add Up to Much:
"The Sum of All Fears" fails miserably as a movie, but succeeds as a window into Hollywood's PC soul

It seems kind of a shame, since I loved the other movies starring the Jack Ryan character: Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger...am I missing any?

I just read this review from National Review Online, which analyzes the plot in great detail. This movie just sounds flat out corny...

I saw this movie last night, and as far as entertainment, it wasn't bad. However, I don't like the liberties they took with continuity. Seems as if this movie was taking place at the time Ryan joined the CIA, yet it was set in 2002. They should've set it time-wise in a proper time frame that relates to the other 3 movies. A domed stadium in Baltimore? Of who has read the original book, what was different from the book - I understand from side-reading the terrorists were supposed to be middle-eastern, what else was changed around?

I refused to see this excrement based on one MAJOR fact...Red October happened BEFORE the Sum events, Cathy Ryan KNEW Jack was CIA and in the trailers, Jack is lying to Cathy about what he does???

WTF??

ahhh, other Tom Clancy fans, good to see. I read the books, but like most book to movie projects, the latter suffers IMO.

What's your guys favorite TC books?

Jesus, I've read them all, except the co-authored shit that puts his name on it to sell (Ops Center comes to mind).

I can't even think of the best. Was Red Storm Rising his? I liked Rainbow Six, a lot of people didn't. I liked the action.

Executive Decision I seem to recall being cool.

Hmmm, time for me to re-read some Clancy!!! Woo Hoo!! Something to read!!!
