Wow are the Indians dumping salary
Roberto Alomar traded to Mets for Matt Lawton, and some other players...a few interesting prospects but it looks like the Tribe will suck balls this year...good at least i will be able to get tickets to watch games..
Mets looking tough with Justice coming and now Alomar
Alex Escobar OF went to Cleveland along with a pitcher named Riggan...never heard of him...2 minor league players to be named later ended up being an 8 player deal

Without a doubt the Indians gave up their best player in Alomar...i really don't think it was worth it....i'm glad i'm not an Indians fan

so here is the low down on the deal
Mets Get: 2B Roberto Alomar
RHP Mike Bacsik minor leaguer
OF/1B Danny Peoples minor leaguer

Indians Get: OF Matt Lawton
OF Alex Escobar
P Jerrod Riggan
2 players to be named later...supposedly good prospects

Got to the love the winter meetings, trades always happen

Please god let the A's get Sheffield

Late.

i like the fact that this smart good looking guy lives 10 minutes outside the city...hey thats me all right
actually we've got some decent restaurants downtown...otherwise Cleveland is pretty much a dump and their sports teams reflect that
but you know what, i wouldn't want to live anywhere else...i love my dump

Anyway Mark Shapiro's era as Indians manager has not started out too well...but you know the Indians are looking pretty good at the Pitchers spot Colon, Sabathia, Baez...a solid young pitching staff i guess 15-14 run games are a thing of the past in CTown...damn i used to love 5 and 1/2 hour games

CLEVELAND ROCKS...hehehe yeah right

Cool, with any luck this will help propel the Twins to the Division title!

The Twins still need another OF bat and relief pitcher though.

Gobbie is a great player, but he has a serious attitude problem. As soon as he gets to the Mets, it won't take long for you to find out.

I don't know whether it's cool or absurd that 'hawk can be excited for the Twins chances for 2002, given that they have been threatened not to see 2002! Actually, that's what is really absurd!

This would've been good for the Hot Stove League thread!

Ahhh

Here some the White Sox!!! Yeah yeah !

The Twinkies better hope they even have a team, before they think of winning the division.

Although, if this threat doesn't make the fans come out this year to save their asses and make money, then kiss their asses goodbye.

Besides, the White Sox are healthy now baby! Minnie will no longer be playing a gimpy team from Chi-Town!

CHICAGO WHITE SOX - 2005 WORLD CHAMPIONS

The Chicago White Sox (1901-present) - The Original SOX - Proof

The Boston Americans (1901)
The Boston Somersets (1902)
The Boston Pilgrims (1903-1906)
The Boston Red Sox (1907-present) - Proof

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

I think it's a big mistake for Cleveland. I know that Escobar is a "top" prospect, but I think part of that comes from him being with the Mets. On the other hand, he has been voted top prospect of all the leagues he's played in the last 3 years. And those are voted on by that leagues managers, so it's just not hype. I still don't think he's going to pan out unfortunately.

The other thing is that Alomar is a bargain at 8 million this year and next. 8 mil for the best second baseman in baseball and perhaps EVER. If you were to sign a free agent for 8 million today, you are only going to get a guy like John Burkett or Jason Schmidt. Boone is being offered over 8 mil a year and is not signing.

Also, Cleveland only got 1 solid starter in return - Lawton. Now Riggan COULD be pretty good out of the bullpen and, of course, Escobar. But when you trade a guy like Alomar, ya gotta get 2 solid guys.

Oh well, let's hope this woks out for Cleveland.

Why trade Alomar? He's an All-Star second baseman with great numbers and fielding. Now the Mets might be the team to beat next season in the NL.
