Too bad on this one! I wish Cameron would get his head out of his ass!!

    Is True Lies 2 Dead?
    Sunday, March 31, 2002 10:43 CST

'Fred Topel' at Actionadventure.about.com spoke to actor Bill Paxton who has some bad news for "True Lies" fans.

Paxton, who played the sleazy used car salesman in the first film, made a trip to Titanic with James Cameron back in August and September. "I made four descents down to Titanic and [the sequel] came up. I think in light of the events of September, I don't think Jim Cameron will be in any way, shape or form involved in a sequel to that movie. That's my opinion. I can't really speak for Jim."

OZZY OSBOURNE: Diary Of A Mad Scam?! - Mar. 31, 2002

A minor controversy has erupted among die-hard OZZY OSBOURNE fans over the upcoming reissue of the singer's classic solo debut, Blizzard of Ozz, which is currently slated to come out through the Sony label on April 9th. Billed as a “digitally remastered” version of the original master tapes, the new “expanded edition” reissue apparently no longer contains the original bass and drum tracks by Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake, respectively, and instead features contributions from bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Mike Bordin, both of whom are in OZZY's current backing band.

Although no official reason was given for the addition of the newly-recorded bass and drum tracks to the original guitar and vocal performances, it is believed that Daisley and Kerslake's $20 million lawsuit against OSBOURNE alleging a failure to properly compensate and credit the duo for their songwriting contributions to the aforementioned album had all but insured that the pair would not give their consent to a re-release of the 1981 LP in its original form, thereby necessitating a deletion of their tracks from the final product.

Following his appearance on Blizzard Of Ozz, Daisley went on to work with OZZY on the Bark At The Moon, No Rest For The Wicked, and No More Tears albums. During his time with OSBOURNE, Daisley also scored co-songwriting credit on tracks like "Crazy Train", "Mr. Crowley", "I Don't Know", "Crazy Babies", and others.

    Niles on Spawn 2
    Posted: Friday, March 29, 2002

Steve Niles recently sat down and chatted with Comic Book Resources big-shot Jonah Weiland about comics movies and things in between. Weiland managed to get on the subject of the Spawn 2 screenplay, which Niles co-wrote with creator Todd McFarlane.

"What Spawn 2 is about is here's this guy who's been dead and gone for over 10 years. It was five years from [the time he died up till the first movie] and then add another five or six years to that," Niles said. "He's been dead and sitting in an alley for a long time! He's been forgotten. He's a supernatural force.

"What we're doing in Spawn 2 is we're telling three or four separate stories; Sam and Twitch and a case they're on about a ritual murder, a criminal conspiracy with the Police that involves the area around Rat City and basically all these story lines intersect at Spawn and he affects each one of them."

As has been clear from the start, Spawn 2 won't be a retread of the original. "The only thing Todd said is he didn't want to repeat the same thing he did before. The first Spawn movie represented Spawn at the time. Now, we're all older and he wanted to do something a little different," Niles told Weiland.

"This movie isn't going to be guided by special effects. This will be a story-driven movie."

Niles reports that the script has been turned in to the studio and they are waiting for notes or further word. "It's just like anything [in Hollywood.] Step-by-step. I'm not going to say too much because if I say, 'Yeah, it's a go,' it'll be cancelled by the time I get home."

    Is this really necessary?

Rush Hour 3 & 4 to Film Simultaneous?
    Sunday, March 31, 2002 10:36 CST

'Fred Topel' at Actionadventure.about.com has learned from New Line co-chairman Bob Shaye that they may be looking beyond even "Rush Hour 3" already.

"What we would like to do if we could and if we could get economies of scale involved is to actually do a Rush Hour 3 and 4 together and have the third one be a cliffhanger," Shaye said.

    Freddy Vs. Jason Script Greenlit
    Monday, April 1, 2002 2:27 CST

Sci Fi Wire spoke to New Line co-chairman Bob Shaye who says he has approved a script for a "Freddy Vs. Jason" movie, based on characters from the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises.

"The basic idea is how does Freddy come back after his banishment and how does he use Jason and eventually have to vanquish him, and then how do the children of Elm Street have to get rid of everybody?" Shaye said.

Shaye adds that "It acknowledges [them] to the extent that at the end of every one of the Freddy films and at the end of every one of the Jason films, the bad guys get sent back. Now, I think one of the two characters is going to try to enlist the other in concert to come back again and maybe not have to leave. That's basically what the storyline is."

    ROB ZOMBIE: I Haven't Put On A Stripped-Down Show In 12 Years - Apr. 2, 2002

ROB ZOMBIE recently spoke to The Los Angeles Times about his reasons for playing a stripped-down show on the second stage at this year's Ozzfest rather than putting on a full performance on the main stage, where most people would have expected to see him. According to Mr. ZOMBIE, “I came up with the idea while I was on the Merry Mayhem tour recently with Ozzy. I was sitting on the Osbournes' bus with Ozzy and [Osbourne's wife and manager] Sharon, talking about Ozzfest. I'd done the main stage in 1999. It was good, but those venues are so uptight, those huge corporate amphitheaters. I'd go watch the bands on the second stage out in the parking lot or wherever they'd put them sometimes, and it looked like so much fun.

“So I said, 'How about if we headline the second stage?' Ozzy at first was, 'No, I won't let you! You'll be miserable. Don't do it.' But it seemed like a fun, different thing to do—not bring the big show, everything stripped down with just the band, play in the sunlight. I haven't done anything like that in 12 years or something.

“As much as I love the big show and all the production, it becomes this huge thing of its own. Sometimes the show is so huge everything else gets lost.

“The second stage is often bands that don't even have records, or buzz bands in the scene. So hopefully, yeah, this will bring people over who might not spend much time there normally. We'll close the second stage, and when we finish, then they'll start the main stage, so you can see everything, if you're up to the challenge.”

    Michael Jackson Not An Alien?
Michael Jackson is officially in black, ‘Men in Black 2’, that is. Director Barry Sonnenfeld has confirmed the king of pop’s cameo in the second edition of Men in Black. According to Sonnenfeld, “Michael really wanted to be in the movie.” Although the director will not give up any real info, he is sticking to the story that Jacko will not be playing the role of an alien, which would almost seem too appropriate. It has been recently rumoured that MJ is looking into blasting off into space a la Lance Bass. In other MJ news, Mel Gibson has been chosen to star in the next Michael Jackson video. Directed by Rush Hour’s Brett Ratner, the video for ‘Unbreakable’ will also feature Chris Tucker.

Potter to be Biggest VHS & DVD Release Ever?
    Tuesday, April 2, 2002 6:53 CST

The USA Today reports that "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," coming to VHS and DVD May 28, could become the top-selling video of all time, surpassing the 30-million-unit mark and nudging "The Lion King," current record holder, from the top spot it has held for seven years.

At Amazon.com, the title has held the No. 1 spot on the sales charts since its release was announced in early February, with the exception of Oscar week, when "Training Day" briefly vaulted to the top. That's remarkable, says Amazon's Stefan Pepe, given that copies won't be available for almost two months.

At Movie Gallery, the nation's No. 3 video chain with 1,000 stores, advance orders are so strong that senior vice president Bo Lloyd says, "We believe it will sell more units than Lion King ."

The title also is the biggest presell video at Tower Records and Video, a 98-store chain.

Wal-Mart.com is anticipating Harry will be "the biggest title we've ever had," says media manager Cynthia Lin. The video is already No. 1 in sales this year, ahead of "Training Day" and "Moulin Rouge".

"Harry" does face formidable competition, starting with "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," which has a two-tiered strategy in August and November.

(4/2/02, 7 a.m. ET) -- Out today (April 2) are remastered and expanded reissues of two of Foreigner's best-selling albums: the band's self-titled 1977 debut and 1981's 4. In addition to improved sound, both albums feature previously unreleased tracks. Foreigner is filled out with demos of "Feels Like The First Time," "Woman Oh Woman," "At War With The World," and the unreleased "Take Me To Your Leader," while 4 includes "nearly unplugged" versions of "Juke Box Hero" and "Waiting For A Girl Like You" performed by band co-founders Mick Jones and Lou Gramm.

Foreigner peaked at Number Four on the Billboard 200 and has sold more than five million copies since its release. The album 4, which spent 10 weeks at Number One, has sold more than 6 million copies.

A Foreigner episode of VH1's Behind The Music is slated to premiere in May. The group also plans to be on the road this summer, although dates have yet to be announced.

Jackson & Wahlberg Join S.W.A.T. Team?
    Tuesday, April 2, 2002 9:40 CST

Coming Attractions has learned that Sony Pictures is looking to cast both Samuel L. Jackson, who stars in their upcoming "xXx," and "Planet of the Apes" star Mark Wahlberg in "S.W.A.T.". The film will be based on the 1975-1976 TV series, which starred Steve Forrest and Robert Urich.

"Training Day" scribe David Ayer is penning the script for the big screen adaptation. "S.W.A.T." featured a grizzled police veteran, and in his version, Ayer said he has a mean Pablo Escobar-type of criminal who offers $100 million to whomever could break him out of jail.

Russian director Zack Snyder is helming the action-packed film.

More video game movies on the way
Despite track record, studios still want video game inspired films

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Dateline: Wednesday, April 3, 2002

    By: CHRISTOPHER ALLAN SMITH
    By: News Editor
    Source: Variety

In the wake of modest success by last year’s TOMB RAIDER and the more recent RESIDENT EVIL, film studios are looking into developing more movies based on video games as they once ran after comic book inspired flicks.

In recent months, New Line has purchased the big screen rights to the riot-game STATE OF EMERGENCY, while GRAND THEFT AUTO 3, CRAZY TAXI and the Xbox basher DEAD OR ALIVE have also been snagged for films. Original SUPERMAN director Richard Donner is reportedly developing TAXI for the big screen.

Not only that, but according to a story in VARIETY, tons more games have been bought in the last six months. Among them: ALICE, CRIMSON SKIES, HOUSE OF THE DEAD, MAX PAYNE, ONI, PERFECT DARK and SILENT HILL.

This, despite the fact film versions of such mega vid hits as DOOM, QUAKE and DUKE NUKEM haven’t hit the multiplexes.

" Good games do not make great movies. There's a feeding frenzy that doesn't make sense," screenwriter and producer Danny Bilson told the paper. He wrote the genre lark THE ROCKETEER, and has been asked developed both games and scripts since. "The game space isn't famous for its great fiction. People who play games really know which ones are worthy of being a film or not, and there aren't too many of them. I haven't found one… The guys buying them are buying them because kids like them. That's their audience. They go, 'That's a hot title. Are the kids buying it? That sounds good.' It's a business decision.”
".....and Harry Potter and all of his wizard-friends went to Hell for practicing Witchcraft. The End." -Ned Flander's version of reading "Harry Potter" to Rod and Todd.
