I smoke, and I gotta quit.

I wanted to know what to expect, and how long the whole thing lasts.

My biggest concern are withdrawal symptoms, and how they will affect me when i'm on the job.

I know that this question may not be appropriate for the forum, but since everyone's discussing Ed and his smoking...:;!

Future thanks for any replies.

Forget about how bad it will be when you quit, think about how bad it will be if you don't!

It will be the best investment you could ever make... in yourself.

As tough as it may get, there is help out there for you during your time of need. Reach out to friends and family.

Good luck and I'm rooting for you.

I just celebrated 6 years of quitting smoking. I tried several times with no success, then I bought the Nictrol patch. It sat on my kitchen counter for about three weeks until one morning I threw what cigarettes I had left in the garbage before I even lit the first one that day, slapped on the patch, and Bam! I am a reformed smoker. Haven't cheated even once. My background was 12 years of chain smoking, and when I quit, I was doing 2 packs a day. I never truly understood the term "personal courage" before quitting. I almost cried I was so scared to quit. Scared of what????? But I finally did it!

If you do try to quit, you can count on me for support I'd be glad to help out anyone who has the desire and balls to quit You can PM me below. Good luck!!!

Smoking must be a terribly difficult thing to give up for good. I know this is weird, but I am 34 years old, never smoked a day in my life, and I swear from time to time I get the urge to smoke. A little background: My mother was a chain smoker, god rest her beautiful soul, and I don't think she could give them up even for her pregnancy with me. I sometimes wonder if that is somehow the reason behind these urges...Doesn't happen too often, just when I get really stressed. Weird eh?

Good luck to you man!!!

I just started to quit 13 years of smoking.
It will be 2 weeks monday that I have been smoke free. I quit cold turkey for the first 5 nights, and I had to give in to a patch. That first patch was like HEAVEN, I tell ya. But those first 5 nights, it was very hard. After a week now on the patch, it helps, but still hard. The best thing I have found is smelling things, its amazing how good things smell so 'good' and bad smells, well, smell 'bad' I'm with you, if you want, you can email me...I need support too. ugh! btw, I am against this walkathon thing so dont mention it to me-I have other causes to care about.
Okay...this is a good topic, cause Its nice to know other vh fans are quitting same time as me.
