Damn, the old record stood for how long? 37 years or so? And now just 3 years after Mark McQwire beat one of the most "unbreakable" records in baseball, Bonds hits #'s 71 and 72! Unbelievable ...

Bonds is an arrogant dickhead! To bad he broke the record. Oh well, maybe Big Mac will make another run at this record before he gets to old and his body totally gives out.

Bonds is one of the greatest players of all time. He unfortunelty has ruined anyjoy that can come from him breaking the record by also being one of the biggest jag offs in the history of the game. No one can touch his slugging percentage which is around 800 and his average is over 300, on base this year is like 600. The man is just awsome. It great to see a great all around player earn such a record. We all want our heros to be perfect, but thats just not realistic. We are all human. Atleast I think Bonds is human.

    You said it Wombat.

I saw in one of Bonds' pre-game interviews with the media, he was STILL being hostile toward them! They asked him if he'd had time to revel in the achievement of hitting 70+ and he said something to the effect of "I'll look back and be happy when I'm retired and away from you guys!"

What an arrogant jerk!! Did anyone else feel a bit empty and disappointed when he was trotting around the bases after his 70th? I really wanted to feel good for the guy and his accomplishment, but I don't.

You're kidding, right? All time? Greatest?

No...Bonds has gathered up some impressive stats, while doing NOTHING to advance the game. And his sub-.200 post-season average, 1 HR, and 6 RBI qualifies him as one of the greatest CHOKERS of all time.

one of the biggest jag offs in the history of the game.

    OK...you're accurate there.

He's an ass. And he'll NEVER be a 'great' player, I assure you. The greats' names will live on forever; Bonds will essentially be forgotten, with or without the juiced-ball record.

I think Bonds is one of the greatest to ever play the game. He's the only player in history to hit 500 home runs and steal 500 bases. He also won three MVP's in a four-year span. Despite injuries, he's consistently put up at least a .300 AVG, 30 HR, and 100 RBI every year. He can get on base--look at his record 177 walks this season and .514 on-base percentage. And fielding? The guy's won 8 Gold Gloves.

Sure, he may not have a very good relationship with the media, but at least he's honest. Bonds will definitely not be forgotten. He'll get into the Hall Of Fame and be considered one of the best Giants ever.

Who gives a fuck? Bonds is the biggest asshole in baseball. If Ty Cobb were alive, he'd call Bonds an asshole too!!

I remember how much class Mac and Sosa handled themselves in 1998. I saw nothing like that from Bonds. ASSHOLE!!

Fuck him. Of course he had to do it against the Dodgers to make it even more angering.

The greatest thing in the end was that the Dodgers still won, and eliminated the Giants from the National League West title. HA HA dickhead!! Looked like he was gonna cry after that third out in the ninth.

I think Bonds was THRILLED that they lost, so he wouldn't have to play in the post-season and let another team (and city) down again. I'm sure he'll never admit it, though.

Funny thing...back when he was just starting out with the Pirates, he was the nicest guy in the world. Once he got married/divorced and all that shit, he became a miserable bastard. All the kids who used to flock around the Pirates superstar core (Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke, Drabek) noticed the change overnight, and he went from a beloved player to a hated one in a heartbeat.

The biggest difference between Bonds and Cobb is that Cobb will be remembered as a great player despite his being an asshole, while Bonds will be remembered as being an asshole despite his being a 'great' player.

BTW...I have to admit, for the only game I've watched all year, I got my 4+ hours worth of entertainment last night!

no, it's common knowledge that bonds is one of the most hated players in the league.
i found it kinda dumb that the pitcher pretty much served him a floater for his 72nd homer. i thought that kinda defeats the purpose of baseball...
