With the year drawing to an end and the holiday approaching, I will probably have less time to update this thread for the next few weeks. I still will be updating it at least once or twice a day, but there may be a day or two it doesn't. I should've plugged this site long ago, but if you'd like to get a real fix on movie news/rumors, go to www.darkhorizons.com . It's the best site out there and run by the most friendly Aussie I know, Garth Franklin. (Keep your eyes peeled-I also contribute to that site as well!)

There's a bunch of Guns-n-Roses items in this first post...

    ITEM!
GUNS N' ROSES Deny Plot To Keep SLASH Away From Previous Shows - Dec. 7, 2002

Former GUNS N' ROSES lead guitarist Slash made headlines when he was reportedly banned from GNR's pair of December 2001 shows at the Joint At The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Security guards there told reporters that frontman Axl Rose had ordered Slash be kept out of the concerts.

But keyboardist Dizzy Reed, who's been with GNR since 1990, says that to his knowledge, there was never any decision to keep Slash or any of the other former GNR members away from the current band's shows:

"Personally, I don't know if that's true. I heard that he (Slash) might be there, and the general consensus amongst all of us, including Axl, was, 'Whatever. If he wants to come out...I mean, whatever,' " he said. "I don't know what happened, but I saw a funny cartoon — in, like, FHM magazine or something — of a little caricature of Slash getting kicked out (laughs) of the House Of Blues, or wherever we were playing — the Hard Rock Cafe, sorry. It was probably just a big rumor. I don't know anything about that, to be honest."

GUNS N' ROSES Cancel Philadelphia, Angry Fans Riot - Dec. 7, 2002

GUNS N' ROSES fans at Philadelphia's First Union Center began rioting after being told that the group were a no-show Friday night (Dec. 6).

About 14,000 people in the center were informed over the public address system at approximately 11:15 p.m. that a band member had fallen ill and the concert had been postponed.

The show by Axl Rose and his group was scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.

The opening acts for the evening, CKY and MIX MASTER MIKE, performed as scheduled, with the latter ending his appearance at around 9:15-9:30, according to eyewitness reports.

GUNS N' ROSES played in New York City's Madison Square Garden Thursday night. Tickets for that show sold out in 15 minutes with the other cities doing close to capacity business, according to the band's official web site.

The group are set to perform another Philadelphia date at First Union Center on Sunday, Dec. 8. It is not presently clear if that performance will go ahead as scheduled.

The following first-hand account of the Philadelphia GN'R no-show was sent to BLABBERMOUTH.NET by Inter Sandman Chapter Head Zach Smith:

"I went to the GUNS N' ROSES show tonight at the First Union Center in Philly, it was sold out and everything. Well, I got there at around 8:30 and MIX MASTER MIKE was still on stage. He kept saying how GUNS N' ROSES would be on in a minute, yet never left the stage for another 30-45 minutes. Everyone started kidding around saying that Axl wouldn't show up again. Well, MIX MASTER MIKE ended at around 9:15-9:30. At 10, no sign of the show starting. Word was spreading that Axl hadn't arrived yet. Then we found out that the First Union Center had put a stop on all beer sales — kind of odd for them to do so before the main act went on. So it got to be 10:30, and still no band - people were starting to see what was coming. In between every song that was being played, the booing got louder and louder, and chants of 'asshole' began that were really loud. At that point, you knew GUNS N' ROSES wouldn't be playing. Finally, when people saw the soundboard guys cover up their equipment, all hell broke loose. People started ripping binoculars off the seats and throwing them down on the floor, people were chucking their drinks and food at security around the stage as they took the equipment away, people rushed the stage, a fight broke out, folding chairs were turned into launching pads. An announcement FINALLY came on at around 11:15 saying that the show had been cancelled due to 'health reasons' and that tickets were valid whenever the show would be rescheduled. That really set people off, and chairs started flying at the soundboard and up on stage. It was not a pretty site. However, a good amount of people did leave and outside seemed to be quite calm in comparison to what was happening inside. There was a large police presence outside, but thankfully they were not instigating anything with angry fans. Who knows what happened, but I can tell you while I'm shocked, I'm certainly not surprised. I also think Philadelphia fans handled the situation quite well considering the circumstances and the past history with riots."

GUNS N' ROSES: More Cancellations On The Way!! - Dec. 7, 2002

Sunday night's (Dec. 8) GUNS N' ROSES concert at First Union Spectrum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been officially cancelled, according to a statement issued by Comcast Spectacor Ventures, which owns and operates the arena. Friday night's (Dec. 6) concert at neighboring First Union Center will not be rescheduled. Also cancelled, according to a Ticketmaster representative, are the GUNS N' ROSES concerts at MCI Center in Washington, D.C. on Dec. 9, Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, NM on Dec. 21, America West Arena in Phoenix, AZ on Dec. 22, Arco Arena in Sacramento, CA on Dec. 30 and HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA on Dec. 31. More cancellations are expected to be announced shortly.

Philadelphia Inquirer: 'Health Problems' Prevented AXL ROSE From Leaving New York City - Dec. 8, 2002

The official reason for Friday's (Dec. 6) cancellation of GUNS N' ROSES' concert at First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is that a member of the band — that is, the notoriously erratic frontman Axl Rose — was having "health problems," the Philadelphia Inquirer has reported.

The group, with the exception of Rose, was still lodged at the Ritz Carlton in Center City (Philadelphia) yesterday afternoon. As of last night, Rose had still not checked in. A source at the First Union Center told the Inquirer speculation was that Rose had stayed in his New York hotel room to watch a basketball game.

A GUNS N' ROSES spokeswoman declined comment yesterday. But said that she expected the band to make a statement tomorrow (Dec. 9).

Meanwhile, the following item appeared in today's edition of the New York Post:

Axl Rose never got to the birthday party photographer David LaChappelle threw for his transsexual muse, Amanda Lapore, at Spa Thursday night (Dec. 5). The GUNS N' ROSES frontman arrived at about 3 a.m., but he was wearing a fur coat, and the club has a policy against fur. One of the women in Axl's entourage checked her fur at a nearby parking garage, but angry Axl stalked off as his friends went in to find Robert Downey Jr., who confessed he was a big fan of LaChappelle's photos of Lapore's fake breasts. Downe asked if he could kiss them. Sure, she said. So he did.

    Monday, December 9, 2002 12:10 CST

Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow will topline the big-budget science fiction thriller The World of Tomorrow from first-time writer-director Kerry Conran, says The Hollywood Reporter. The film aims to go into production in late February in London.

Jon Avnet and Marsha Oglesby, who developed the project, are producing through their Brooklyn Films along with Law and his wife, Sadie Frost.

The project is described by the producers as "retro sci-fi" in the vein of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Set at the turn of the 20th century, it follows a reporter (Paltrow) and pilot (Law) who team up on an adventure.

The Two Towers DVD for $1 in Asia?
    Sunday, December 8, 2002 11:51 CST

Variety reports that DVDs of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers were available in Shanghai two weeks ago for about $1 a pop, according to one Western film industry executive who visited that city.

Interviewed at the Cineasia movie convention, the executive said as many as 40 touts were openly offering DVDs outside a Shanghai mall; he declined, and thus can't verify the quality of the counterfeit copies.

Motion Picture Association officials fear the "Rings" sequel will soon be available in other markets, such as Taiwan, Indonesia and Malaysia, where video piracy is rampant -- if it's not there already.

MPA officials estimate at least 90% of the video business in China is illegal, despite Beijing's avowed determination to enforce copyright laws.

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Threatens To Kill Passenger On Flight - Dec. 9, 2002

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN threatened to kill a fellow passenger on a flight to Tokyo, Japan after the woman poured a glassful of water on the guitarist.

The passenger, who had no prior contact with Yngwie, allegedly overheard Malmsteen making derogatory comments about homosexuals and decided to show her disapproval by emptying the contents of her glass on the hefty axeman.

A member of Yngwie's touring entourage, who was traveling with Malmsteen at the time, had a tape recorder running and managed to catch Yngwie's reaction on tape immediately after the guitarist was "assaulted" by the offended passenger.

New York Post: Dead End For GUNS N' ROSES - Dec. 10, 2002

The following item was published in today's edition of the New York Post:

Welcome to the bungle: Thanks to Axl Rose's bizarre behavior, GUNS N' ROSES had the plug pulled yesterday on the band's first tour in almost a decade.

Clear Channel, the promoter, halted the long-anticipated tour after the band canceled Friday's concert at Philadelphia's First Union Center because Rose never showed up.

The night before, Rose told fans at Madison Square Garden the tour was a reunion because, "I managed to get enough of myself together to do this."

The concert cop-out came less than a month after Rose skipped the tour opener in Vancouver, sparking riots between enraged fans and cops.

An announcement at the Philadelphia venue said the show was halted because of "health issues" of a band member. But G&R-watchers attributed the tour's failure to Rose's wacky eccentricities — which include traveling with a psychiatrist to coax him on-stage.

"He was still in New York during the Philly show," says an insider. "He never even got on the plane. The promoter put him on notice after what happened in Vancouver."

Another rumor had Rose holed up at his Manhattan hotel suite and telling his management that Thursday's sold-out show at the Garden was "as good as the band could get" and "it was time to cut their losses."

Whatever the reason behind the corn-rowed caterwauler's latest flake-out, it may spell the end of the current incarnation of G&R. While original members Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin, Gilby Clark and Steven Adler left years ago, Rose assembled an all-star line-up that includes guitar virtuoso Buckethead, former NINE INCH NAILS guitarist Robin Finck and ex-REPLACEMENTS bassist Tommy Stinson, to record a new album and tour.

"They were getting along better than ever because something was finally happening," said our source, referring to G&R's long-delayed "Chinese Democracy" album.

"But they had been previously frustrated by the delays and Axl's pathological perfectionism, tardiness and general insanity. Now they're back in the same boat, and they'll probably split."

Rose's chunky new build — which he disguises by wearing baggy football jerseys - and suspiciously smooth and unlined face have made him the butt of jokes among his bandmates, says an insider. Guitarist Finck even made a collage that pokes fun at Rose by including a face with five Botox needles sticking out of it.

Rose's spokeswoman at Interscope Records did not return calls.

WHITESNAKE And DOKKEN 2003 Lineup Details Unveiled - Dec. 10, 2002

According to Melodicrock.com, the lineup for WHITESNAKE's upcoming reunion tour will likely consist of frontman David Coverdale, bassist Marco Mendoza (THIN LIZZY, BLUE MURDER), guitarist Doug Aldrich (DIO, HURRICANE, LION) and drummer Tommy Aldridge (OZZY OSBOURNE, TED NUGENT, THIN LIZZY). Rumors also abound that Warren DiMartini (RATT) was asked to fill the second-guitarist slot, but nothing has yet been confirmed.

In further lineup news, guitarist Reb Beach is no longer believed to be eyeing a return to DOKKEN for the band's upcoming tour with WHITESNAKE and THE SCORPIONS.

Beach, who has been writing material for a new WINGER album as well as a new solo record, is said to have other commitments and the search for a guitarist is still underway.

UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Dashboard Confessional and Jack Johnson played acoustic, and Beck and Coldplay celebrated Christmas, but otherwise KROQ-FM's annual Almost Acoustic Christmas was a two-day, 20-act festival all about rocking.

And the sold-out event was certainly crammed with rock 'n' roll moments, particularly the announced live debut of Audioslave (they played a secret club show the night before), and an amusing rendition of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" orchestrated by Beck and the Flaming Lips and featuring Coldplay's Chris Martin, Dashboard Confessional's Chris Carrabba, Johnson and a horribly off-key Juliette Lewis.

Audioslave were the talk of Saturday's show and more than lived up to the hype with a set featuring the most ferocious songs on their self-titled debut, including the single "Cochise" and the one-two punch of "Set It Off" and "Gasoline".

The band was as tight and energetic as it was in the Rage Against the Machine heyday, especially guitarist Tom Morello, who leaped as he hit his monstrous riffs. And Chris Cornell was not only the most spot-on singer of the night, he handled his new frontman role so gracefully it was as if he had been heading Audioslave for decades.

There were a few moments when Cornell swung his arms like an air guitar pro, but he mostly entertained himself during musical interludes by watching the rest of the band, even patting Morello on the head a few times.

As brutal as the music was, Audioslave and most of the crowd smiled throughout the show, just happy to see the supergroup come this far. Cornell seized the sentimental moment by announcing, "These guys saved my life this year," which he explained offstage was to thank the band for being his friends even though he "dragged them through a trail of sh--."

The ex-Soundgarden singer wasn't the only mid-'90s alt-rock icon to perform Saturday, as Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan also showed off his new project, Zwan. While not as aggressive as Audioslave, Zwan showed the same sort of '70s rock influence.

Corgan said little during the set, but introduced "And So I Died of a Broken Heart" as being "from our new record ... our only record," which made him chuckle. While Zwan's three guitars were a force to be reckoned with on some of the heavier numbers, the group also displayed a mellow side, with bassist Paz Lenchantin even picking up a violin for one song.

Other highlights of Saturday's show included Queens of the Stone Age's 40-minute set, featuring songs like "The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret" and the Songs for the Deaf single "No One Knows."

Flamboyant singer Bert McCracken of the Used recalled Kurt Cobain or even Jim Morrison as he leaped off amplifiers and slammed his microphone into the ground. "Merry Christmas," he said joyfully, before changing moods with, "I'm gonna depress the f--- out of you now." Their "Christmas song," "Alone This Holiday," followed.

Before their finale, a crowd member doused McCracken with a cup of beer, which prompted the singer to point the man out and ... thank him for giving him a good idea. McCracken then asked everyone to throw their drinks at him, which made for a spectacular visual, especially the cups from the far back that only made it about halfway to the stage.

Audioslave, Zwan, Queens, the Used and the Southern hard rock of Trust Company aside, Saturday was a showcase of the usual rap-metal (P.O.D., Disturbed, Taproot) and pop-punk (Sum 41, New Found Glory).

Sunday was more a showcase of the way rock radio expanded in 2002, from the sophisticated hip-hop of Jurassic 5 to the chilled surfing soundtrack of Jack Johnson.

Beck and the Flaming Lips followed by Coldplay provided a few hours of envelope-pushing — so much that when headliners Creed took the stage afterward, they were met with boos and half the venue clearing out.

In all fairness, Creed would have likely been a hit on Saturday's bill, but singer Scott Stapp didn't score sympathy points when he stormed offstage during the first song because his mic wasn't working. He returned, but the set felt off.

The Vines also might have been a bit too heavy for Sunday's crowd, which preferred their slowed-down cover of Outkast's "Ms. Jackson" over the raucous hit "Get Free."

Johnson's and Dashboard's laid-back sets were met with widespread applause, especially when Johnson brought out Ben Harper to play slide guitar on "Flake."

In his 40-minute set, Beck played songs from his sober new Sea Change along with some of the party anthems that broke him, like "Loser" and "Where It's At," both of which were given a disco makeover by the Lips.

Beck and Wayne Coyne (via megaphone) crooned "White Christmas" before the Band Aid tribute. During both holiday numbers, the "animals" from the Flaming Lips' "Do You Realize?" video painted the stage with bags of fake snow and provided a sort of Island of Misfit Rockers vibe.

Coldplay's set, which featured variations of "Yellow," "Trouble" and other favorites, was also punctuated with a holiday classic, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," performed by Martin solo on a piano.

And a merry time it was.

    —Corey Moss

RUSH recently completed their 66-date 2002 tour with three dates in Brazil, the first time the band have performed in that country. The three Brazilian shows drew over 125,000 people with the Sao Paulo date having over 60,000 in attendance, the largest crowd that Rush has ever played to. The band's show in Rio was recorded and is in the process of being edited for release on DVD. The release date for this DVD, which will also include some behind the scenes footage, will be announced shortly. Also scheduled for release is a new compilation CD entitled The Spirit of Radio: Greatest Hits: 1974-1987, available on February 11, 2003.

Birds of Prey Online tells us that The WB will be airing two all-new episodes of the series on the evening of January 8th, from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

I was into this show....but it's pretty lame IMHO......what a shame cause the concept was there.
From 3-13 to 10-6 and NFC South Champs.....go Saints!
