Actor Richard Harris, best known in recent years as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies, Abbe Faria in The Count of Monte Cristo and Emperor Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator, has died today from cancer at the age of 72. Here's the report from the Associated Press...

Irish actor Richard Harris, the roistering star of screen gems such as "A Man Called Horse" and "This Sporting Life," died Friday night at a London hospital, his family said. He was 72.

"With great sadness, Damian, Jarid and Jamie Harris announced the death of their beloved father, Richard Harris," the family said.

"He died peacefully at University College Hospital," where he was been receiving treatment for Hodgkin's Disease after falling ill earlier this year, the family said.

Harris also played Dumbledore in "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone" and will play that role in the next chapter in the Harry Potter Saga, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

I remember him from watching "A Man Called Horse" in Junior High

This sucks. He was expecting to recover to work on the next HP movie, didn't seem that serious an illness.

The next HP movie has allready been shot and will be released around Thanksgiving.

But I'm not a HP fan, and I thought he was allready dead.

I remember him in the movie "Orca". Which I believe was Bo Derek's first movie.
