Oakland gives Red Sox permission to talk with GM Billy Beane? Accordinging to sources, and of course, we here at channel 4 have sources.

Baker likely headed to Cubs, but Boston still could be a possibility. Grady Little would then go to Seattle.

Jeff Kent to Boston? The two sides have already talked. Kent will likely become a firstbaseman in 2003 or 2004. Boston needs a power hitting man at first.

Clemens to either stay a Yankee or join Boston or Texas. It would be nice to see Roger get his 3,000 win in a Boston uniform, an acquisition Pedro endorses.

Glavine to Philly? A good chance, but Yankees and Boston are still a chance.

Pettite likely to become free agent.

Yankees set to sign Japanese star slugger.

*With salaries likely to be dramatically lower for this years crop of free agents, look for some smaller teams to possibly get better and those on the cusp of being champions will become frontrunners next season.
Next year's top teams.

AL: Anahiem and Seattle in the west.
Minnesota and Chicago in central.
Boston, New York and Toronto in the east.

NL: Arizona and Los Angelos in the west
Houston and St. Louis in central
Philly and Mets in east.

Teams to be much better than this year:
Detroit and Colorado

I'll have to see how free agency shakes out before saying who are contenders. But I will say this- Detroit will NOT be in contention. I also do believe that the Angels will not contend next year. They got too many career seasons from guys, i.e. Eckstien, Kennedy, Spiezio, middle relief.

Detroit is just so untalented right now it's a joke.

Philly's might have Thome along with Glavine...now that is an improvement.
the Cubs can't improve just with Baker...they need an overhaul and they need to quit giving their shitty players to Milwaukee!!! LOL!

My guess is Clemens will come back to NY unless Boston speaks up. Even a diehard Yankee fan like myself sees Clemens winning his 300th as a Red Sox which he should. It would be a great PR move for Boston to mend their relationship with Clemens. No Duquette so why wouldn't they?

I don't want to see Pettitte go because he is New York's second youngest starter at 30. As for signing this Japanese slugger, I don't like it. They want to trim payroll so they can have room to sign him. They also want to sign 37 year old Tom Glavine. The staff is old enough and we saw what happened in the playoffs.

Thome will be a Phillie very soon.

Tejada wins AL MVP. I guess he deserves it, but so didn't A-Rod.
I see a pattern where it now seems to matter if you are on a winning team or not.

What would have Oakland's record have been without Tejada?
How much worse would have Texas's record have been without A-Rod?

*On another note.

Kinda bummed about Beane not coming here, but I'm glad he was honest and didn't come here just for the money. (5 year, 13 million deal was reached). Now maybe the Sox will make current interim manager Mike Port the GM, because they have a young 28 year old GM in the making right now as Assistant GM and take some of that money that was to be used for Beane and bring more pitching (a starter and relievers) and resign Cliff Floyd and maybe add a Jeff Kent.

Where is Philly getting all this money all of the sudden? Is it because of the new agreement?

The Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets whatever you want to call them, have NEVER displayed "SOX" anywhere on their caps, jerseys, or merchandise, therefore they shouldn't be referred to as such. However, the White Sox have used "SOX" since 1912.

The SOX are in Chicago...we just allow the Pilgrims/Americans/Somersets to use the name.

It'll be interesting to see what Sweet Lou can bring to the Devil Rays - lord knows they need so much!
Overall everybody just needs to build on this season and with the labour strife behind hopefully they can. Hopefully there'll be some more surprises (Detroit - or is that really pushing it?!?). It's a symbiotic relationship - better baseball equals more fans, more fans equals better baseball (in my opinion). Still, the Marlins might be better off to see if part of Joe Robbie can get used as a temporary prison from say, April to October... Who cares how the crowd gets there as long as there's a crowd!

Clemens going back to Boston? What kind of crack are people smoking?

I can't see why Boston fans would be able to accept him back with open arms when he

A.)Left them for Toronto of all places.

B.)Has now been a (in their eyes) god-forsaken Yankee.

C.)Is 40 years old and won't be an active player all that much longer.

Why? So they could feel like they stuck it to NY? That would be a little more plausible if they wre actually going to get something worthwhile out of it, but let's face it 0- Clemens has surprised people with his resilience and longevity THIS far. The guy won't last forever, as much as I like him and hope he will.

I think the Phillies feel they are a few players away from winning a very mediocore, but talented division. I suppose if they sign some big names it will help the season ticket push for the last year at the Vet / first year in the new stadium.

Baseball America just name Minnesota the Organization of the Year... again.

Clemens leaving Boston was Dan Duquette's doing. He said that Roger doesn't keep himself in good enough shape. I do not see why he said that. His workouts were somewhat legendary by that time.
