The Cooperstown elite grew by two Tuesday when Kirby Puckett and Dave Winfield were announced as the newest inductees into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Puckett packed 2,304 hits and two World Series championships into a 12-year career with the Minnesota Twins.

I can't think of a nicer, classier guy to get in than him. Baseball could stand to have a few more Kirby Pucketts.

Unfortunately, this may be the high point of the decade for this organization and its fans, like me.

    Congrats Kirby!!

    I couldn't agree more.

Nice to see the good guys get what they deserve once in a while.

I'm pissed that "Donnie Baseball" (oddly enough, a nickname given to him by none other than Puckett ) only got 28% of the votes needed to make the Hall, but I'm happy that Kirby got in.

    He really deserves to.

Donnie baseball just couldn't keep his numbers up beyond his first 5 years, and that cost him.

Plus, as much as I didn't like the guy, Keith Hernandez has put up even better numbers on both offense and defense and is not in the Hall.

I thought Gary Carter was going to make it this year.

Congrats to Kirby! He certainly deserves it and I could not be happpier for him. As a role model and a man who never stopped hustling, I salute him.

I wish Donnie Baseball would get in. His back ruined it for him. I disagree that Keith Hernandez was better, Hellohawk. Had Mattingly played as many seasons, he would have had more Gold Gloves, higher numbers and most likely a ring or two. ( I know. Would of, could of, should of.) Donnie had a higher average, more power, and was just as good, if not better, a fielder.

Donnie and Keith will probably not get in. Gary Carter should be in though. I hope he makes it next time. Jim Rice? Hmmmm.

I think Molitor is eligible next year. No? he HAS to get in on his first year of eligibility. He is the only player since 1978 that can probably match or top Gwynn offensively.

OLO - Kirby is completly blind in his right eye, but his left eye is still functioning fine. I had my picture taken with him at Twinsfest at the Metrodome last February. It was amazing to meet him, great guy.

Georgie - I think Molly has two more years. Talk about ifs, if he would not have lost so many seasons to injury, I think Molly definately had a shot at 4,000 hits!

I agree Hellohawk. Molitor could have been the 4,000 Hit Man. The scary part was that his average seemed to get higher and higher as he got older.

That is awesome you met Kirby. He is a class act! You truly met a superstar and hero the day you posed for pictures with him.
