Okay, sports fans (Wolfman gives everybody a collective smack on the ass ala Chandler's boss on "Friends")!

Super Bowl is over and it's time to get back to baseball. Spring training is a mere two weeks away, and you can already smell the pipin' hot p-nuts!

    PLAY BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Baseball is back baby!!!
Can't wait to get inside Miller Park and see if the Brewers can climb out of the 70's (wins, that is.)

Why in the hell would the Pirates waste 9 mil on Derek Bell??

    XFL - boooring...

I've never been to spring training before, but I visited the Minnesota Twins training facility last week when I was in Ft. Myers, FL. We watched about 15 of a fantasy camp.
Damn, if I didn't get the urge to suit up and toss the rock around.

Hellohawk - You are absolutely right about Derek Bell. 9 Million? This is why the money argument in baseball is weak. A small market team like the Pirates will get a new park and with 9 million dollars to purchase a quality player . . .they get Derek Bell. Ah, pitching? How about a durable veteran? Too many teams mis-appropriate their money. The Angels, the Padres, the Tigers, and now the Pirates. I think teams that have smaller wallets should leave their splurges on players to ownership and management that can get what the team actually needs instead of blaming poor business decisions and acquistions on big money teams. The Pirates shit the bed on this one.

    LMAO

Very true. If I was Vander Wal (.299, 24HR, 400 AB), I'd ask for a trade too!!

Unless they are planning on shipping Kevin Young (don't know who would want him) and move Vander Wal to first full time.

But alas, I will not add anymore Pirate talk here unless somebody else here even likes that team (don't want to be a Hot Stove rally killer).

Hey, hey, the Twins and Brewers are still in first place for another 7 weeks!

I can't wait to see Miller Park, hellohawk. You know I am a Brewer fan in Yankee clothing. I always pull for the Brew Crew, despite being a life long Yankee fan. Now that they are in the NL, I find it much easier to breathe and cheer for them these days. I'll be ceering them on! They can make noise over there.

The Twins? Well . . .they need to start off by dumping the Metrodome. If funding and dollars permit, a new ball park will jump start the organization. I think it will be a long season for them. I do think the Brewers can reel in 80+ wins. I am optimistic about that.

    I never checked.

I am psyched for the upcoming season.

If you team had a batting order that went like this:
    Offerman
    Valentin
    Garciapara
    Ramirez
    Everett
    Bichette
    Nixon
    Varitek
    Daubach

and add Pedro to this and if Cone can turn around from last year and Ohka and Castillo continue to get better. LOOK OUT!!!!!
    Not to mention Saberhagen returning.

No kidding Eddymon...... Boston looks pretty good. They are my favorite team also. I do have to say it's because of Manny however. From 92 through 00 I was an Indians fan, with Manny being my favorite player. Now that he chose to leave Clev., I will follow him to Boston. Not hard to do since Nomar and Pedro are there. I've been a Nomar fan since the 1994 College World Series. Him and Varitek had huge series' for GT.

My problem is that I'm a BASEBALL fan. I love the game. I'm not a bandwagon jumper (I hate the Yanks, Dodgers, ChiSox, Mets, Cubs- all popular teams), but I like many players, so I like many teams. Though I don't like all teams that have a player I like. (Confusing huh ) With the way players move around so much, it's hard to follow one team and see your favorite player leave and then root against him, just cause he's no longer with that team.

I hope that all makes sense.

Right on Georgie!! Well said. Those kinda signings make ya go "uuugghhhh!"

"Build it and they will come." I wish teams would use that saying for their own minor leagues/player development. What baseball really needs are owners who will spend money(get out Carl P. in Twinkie town) and get very good general managers, AND let them run the show. (Owners- hands off please.)Look at what John Schurholtz did with the Royals in the early 80's before he went to the Braves. Now look at the turnaround the Braves have had with him. The Braves always had money with Ted Turner, but didn't know how to spend it until Schurholtz came along.

Georgie, I know your heart is in the right place ( Brew Crew ).

This it the year that our small media market can no longer hold down the bonafide star that is Geoff Jenkins. If he stays healthy, he should hit .315, 40-45 HR's. I like the 2-3-4-5 punch in the order (Loretta, Jenkins, Sexson, Burnitz). If the rest of the rotation steps it up behind D'Amico and Jamey Wright, the Brewers will compete for a playoff spot. Hope springs eternal.

No doubt about it, the '01 Red Sox might be the best offensive lineup in the last 10 years. And they'll neeed all of it with that staff (minus Pedro).

Hey Georgie, how's about getting the Yanks to send Milwauke some great prospects for Burnitz? They have none, and NY could use another long ball outfielder.

Hellohawk - That would be beneficial to both teams. I think it would be a winning situation. That may be just what tne Brewers need to put them at the next level again. Oh, those winning Brew Crew days: Molitor, Yount, Cooper, Thomas, Oglivie, Histle,Lezcano,Gantner, Moore, etc.

About the Red Sox? Certainly locks a playoff spot for them IF . . .the rest of the starting staff can follow Pedro. Cone will be a very pivotal part of that formula but I honestly think he will be a .500 pitcher at best this year. Love the guy though. Manny will be a monster with 81 games with the Green Monster. Keep Nomar and Valentin healthy and this team will be dangerous. But you know what? I don't think this was Boston's most dangerous lineup. I always think of this as their most dangerous lineup:

    Remy-2B
    Evans-RF
    Lynn-CF
    Rice-DH
    Yaz-LF
    Scott-1B
    Fisk-C
    Hobson-3B
    Burleson-SS
