Thought I would start an NBA thread for the season that is not limited by topic and hopefully we can carry it out throughout the year.

I just saw that Portland has relinquished Steve Smith in turn for Derrick Anderson from San An.....I dont know how to feel about this yet. Steve Kerr is involved as well and will be coming to Portland.

If there was one player who remained solid and earned his stripes last year it was smith...damn. Why give that kind of solidarity up?! Management pissed him off by not wanting to extend his contract (he wanted to stay!!) so he demanded a trade. But, I have to admit, the trade was pretty good. Anderson is a quality player. He will probably take a backseat to Bonzi though...wonder how he will be with that.

Still no word on Sabis, Bonzi, Sheed. Lost Anthony, augmon, and I guess Strickland...aw well. Guess we will see how it shapes up.

How about Dikembe Mutombo, newly-minted MULTI-MILLIONAIRE, gettin' it on with a hooker?

All that $$$$$, and he can't find a gold-digger?

Wonder if he gave her one of his famous finger-wags, only with some other body part?

Portland really underachieved last year, that whole team needs an attitude adjustment i personally thought Mike Dunleavy was a good coach too...i really don't know how Mo Cheeks will handle that job, i think what the Blazers really needed was a more experienced coach, i guy like Fratello would have fit there perfectly, Cheeks is a good guy i don't know how good of a coach he will be though.
I'll tell you who impressed me on that team...rookie Zach Randolph...tore it up in the summer league, i personally thought he came out too early, but maybe i'm wrong he looks like a stud

How about Pat Croce stepping down in Philly?

No doubt man. I definetaly enjoy it more than whats fair to my family lol.

I know its early in the game for this thread, but I know there are enough hardcores in our midst that will be happy to talk about trades and other off season shit until it picks back up.

Hey Seen,

I just sent you an email with an article on the Blazers by some guy who writes for ESPN.

I agree with a lot of what he had to say, which is basically the Blazers still have too many guys that want to have the ball and get their shots. He also said that there is going to be a problem in allocating minutes between Bonzi Wells and Derek Anderson. Whichever guy is asked to come off the bench is going to be pissed.

IMO, the other major problems with the Blazers are that (1) Their best player can't keep himself from getting ejected half the time, and (2)Pippen, Kemp and Davis have huge contracts, are past their primes and are basically untradeable.

Portland still has as much collective talent as any team in the league. However, as the Lakers have proven the past two seasons, you need to have a good mix of talent. The Lakers have possibly the two best players in the universe and a bunch of role players who all do their jobs very well. This is the same basic formula that Phil Jackson used to win 6 titles in Chicago. I don't see any reason that the Lakers won't win it all again this coming season.

That was a great article you sent me coulda. Wraps up my feelings pretty well. Bonzi and Anderson......thats going to be a full force nightmare, obviously, and we are walking face first into it. HUGE mistake letting Greg Anthony go and bringing in a rookie to back up Stoudamire. An "exhuberant" rookie at that. JEEZ!! lord knows we dont need any more tempers out there! And if we ended up with a three person trade for Payton (who certainly is talented) I will literally barf my guts out. A one man show would NEVER work in Portland unless there were no other talent. And if they give up three quality players for Payton.....I'll go downtown and kill whitsitt myself.

Seen,

They just released next season's schedule. The Blazers open up against The Lakers here in L.A. on October 30th. That should be a lot of fun.

Who are the three players Portland is talking about trading for Payton? Can you imagine Payton, Pippen and Wallace together? They would probably kill each other. Payton is a great player, but he hangs onto the ball too much for a point guard.

Payton is the last thing Portland needs, he has become some what of a locker room cancer. Portland doesnt need another strong personality like Gary. He is a GREAT player but he needs to be the leader of a team he could not handle playing with Pippen and Wallace. Gary is also used to playing 44 minutes a night and does not like to be sat down, when Coach McMillian sits him he pouts. Portland seems to be short on playing time and over run with skilled players that want it.

And I dont want him to go any place, cause then we would REALLY suck!!

I have no clue who they would trade for Payton, and I can hardly imagine Seattle letting him go either. That town would riot. He is their hero. I can only hope that Wallace would be a part of that triangle, and or perhaps Pip. Sabis possibly, or Davis. I have no idea

Patterson is actually a pretty good player. Unfortunately, he raped his kids' nanny. As far as Baker is concerned, put a fork in him.
