I wanted a normal life while growing up, and that's one reason I discounted the Academies early in HS; I also wanted a normal college experience.

I graduated from an all boys Catholic\Military high school in New York City. The Military aspect was manadatory your first two years of high school, and then optional your last two years. We were required to wear our full uniforms to school and then one day each week, we would have to report early for drill inspection. We would receive detention, which we would call JUG ( Justice Under God), if our shoes or brass were not shined. If your hair touched your collar, if you had facial hair, or if you did not have the proper socks or hat, you were in JUG. Ironically, more then half the students chose to remain in the military after their two years because they would be decorated high and usually start a rank higher then all incoming Freshmen at all the military universities. They would also receive full scholarships to any University or College that had an R.O.T.C. program.

As for me? I did the two year minimum. No regrets either way. I had a wonderful high school education and learned self-discipline, as well as respect. I can say that it does not hurt you. I think the biggets problem with homes and schools today are the lack of discipline. It is such a crucial ingredient in your character and future.
