I should probably ask at the guitar forum but my playing sucks so I don't go there Anyway I'm in the middle of a clear out and came across the infamous Guitar issue where Eddie slams SH and DLR and gives his Elephant balls speech.

Which is entirely irrelevant here There's also a section on some Eddie riffs where it transcribes Unchained and says 5 out of 10(??) songs on FW were in alternate tunings - 4 in drop D and one in ?? Even I know Unchained is drop D, and I know Top Jimmy from 1984 is in a weird tuning to get those harmonics right - but what's the whole story with FW?

As far as I know, everthing on "FW" is 1/2 step down, and 4-are Drop-D as well, "Sinner's Swing," "Dirty Movies," "Hear About It Later," and "Unchained." "Push Comes To Shove" is in standard tuning, but "One Foot Out the Door" has some funky tuning I believe except the solo is just down 1/2 again.

The two in question are guitar transcriptions for the synth parts for Sunday Afternoon In The Park and One Foot Out The Door. SAITP is tuned(from low to high)C,F,Bflat,Eflat,G,C. OFOTD is tuned(low to high)Csharp,Fsharp,B,E,Gsharp,Csharp. The only actual alternate guitar tunings are the ones Brett has mentioned.

This doesn't count as alternate tuning because I just tune my guitar to albums and make sure the strings are in tune with each other...or try to at least

The slide was just used on some of the solo guitar stuff, like in the beginning of the tune.

All I know is that it's a pain in the ass when I'm playing along with a couple songs, then have to re-tune when I put in a different CD.

My band plays down a 1/2, so I'm always cool. I have a couple of my guitars tuned standard, and a couple down 1/2 to alleviate that problem too.

I always play Unchained tuned down 1/2 step and tune the low E to a D instead of D#

I hear ya Bassman! Most early VH is tuned a little different for every song. It depends how fussy you are for tunings, but for me, I have to get them exact. This means re-tuning for nearly every song if you want to jam along with them. You can tell in the studio, they just grabbed their instruments, gave a quick tuning, and let 'er rip! Sammy era VH is a little more consistant with 440.
