What VH song sat on the shelf longest before it was ever released? (I'm looking for the answer -- I don't know it!)

Lawchick I'm not certain but I know "Jump" was written in either 1980 or 1981 and so was "Right Now." As far as I know, "Right Now" was for about 10 years. "316" was also on the shelf for about 5-6 years, as it was in LWAN in '86. The main riff to "Take Me Back" dates back to 1979 with VHII from what I've seen in some interviews but don't know if I remember that correctly.

That is a great question.

I'm going to take a stab at House of Pain. Ed held on to that lick from take me back for quite a while, but I think for whole songs I'd say HOP.

Let's hope the "two or three albums" of music Eddie claims to have now doesn't break these records!

Hang 'Em High was around in 1976 (when it was called Last Night). 6 years for that one.

House of Pain sat "on the shelf" for 7 years, as did Right Now (the music to it was in the "Wild Life" score).

The riff to Top of the World was played on tour as early as 1981-82 during Dance the Night Away. That's 9-10 years.

If you don't count Stompin' 8H from the 1987 episode of SNL and Steve Lukather's Twist the Knife, the riff from the unreleased 1985 I Want Some Action wasn't on record until Dirty Water Dog -- 13 years.

But the "winner" would be the intro to Take Me Back (Deva Vu), which was written in '75-76 as the intro to No More Waiting. So that's 18-19 years if you count that.

I thought the Top Of The World riff was the outro to Jump.

Strung Out (if you call it a song)
that's 12 years from recording to release in it's actual original form rather than a mutation so to speak....
