Okay, I'll take a crack at this. I've never really paid attention to them, but listening to the version on Blueprint, here's what I hear.

Go button up your coat
or you'll blister from the cold
there's a forest in this light
waiting up the road

And I am in the mountains, in the caves
someone dragged you screaming
to this House of PAIN

This forest stinks of night
by the light of day
and where these woods were bright
shadow lights the way

I am in the mountains, in the caves
someone dragged you screaming
to this House of PAIN

It's pretty clear on my Blueprint. Actually, it's the first song on the second disc of that, which is good because the first disc of my Blueprint is really bad, it pops a lot almost like it's recorded from an LP.

I've got HOP on a few other boots, and I don't really remember any of them being all that bad. Of course, I don't listen to them all that frequently, so I could be wrong.

This thread makes me want to listen to a bunch of unreleased songs to try to figure out the lyrics, just because on a lot of those old tunes, it's really hard to figure out what Dave is singing. When I saw this thread and threw HOP on, I expected it to be hard to figure out, but that one is actually pretty easy to get.

On the version that I downloaded he says:

"There's a full moon out tonight
You better watch your soul"

Least that's what it sounds like to me!

You're right, that lyric is on the second version of HOP that's on Blueprint, which is also the version that's on the first disc of the Last Night bootleg.

I'm pretty sure the first version I quoted above is the WB demo, while the second version, with your correction, is the earlier Gene Simmons demo.

Also, listening to them all again, I'm pretty sure that I was wrong the first time, and the correct lyric is;

And high up in the mountains, in the caves

Those are bad lyrics, I'm glad Dave reworked them for "1984." They make much more sense.

Dave screams that last word, so it's kinda hard to tell. I think it's "soul", but who knows. Dave might not even know.

Really? I mean, don't get me wrong, the HOP on 1984 is bad ass but I like the lyrics. I understand 'em but then again, I'm not a very happy person.
