    Glenn,
Just came across the time issue of recording in another thread

I think it would be interesting to see the time involved in writing a song.

Do you know anything about the songs VH wrote, like.....5 minutes to write......
    such and such?

Well, this may not be exactly what you're talking about, but there is an EVH interview in the Jan 97 Guitar World where Ed mentions that they once wrote three songs in one day in Dave's basement. One was Ain't Talkin Bout Love and one was Bullethead but he doesn't mention what the other song was.

Later in that same interview he mentions working with his therapist. He mentions one breakthrough day they had where he wrote 5 songs, one of which was Me Wise Magic.

As for record time, some songs took a LONG time (at least a long time to be recorded). Right Now was written around 1984 or so. Jump was written in about 1979 on the same keyboard that Eddie used to record And the Cradle Will Rock. And I could swear I remember reading that Ed and Al had been playing with the riff for And The Cradle Will Rock since 1974.

Again, not sure if that's what you had in mind.

Damn, I know Ed's the man, but that 5 songs in one day thing is flat out amazing! And for one of them to be Me Wise Magic? Again, Damn!

To add to the list, I remember Ed saying that they had Without You written just 45 minutes after they met Gary.

I thought they let Gary write all the lyrics first and then Ed made the music to it, oh well, just what I heard and it still easily could have happened.

Did you know that Black Sabbath's first album was recorded in 2 days. The whole album. That's impressive. Has that album been remastered. It needs it, Paranoid is great but the sounds terrible. It definitely needs remastering.

Well, given how everyone around here seems to think that song is one of the worst things Van Halen has ever done, maybe he should've spent just a little bit more time on it!

If I remember correctly Humans Being was written in about 20 minutes. It definately shows too, the lyrics in that song are terrible IMO.
Sammy orginally wrote a song about tornado's for the Twister soundtrack but he was forced to change the lyrics. I believe the producer of Twister didn't want the song to be about Tornado's.

FYI, I read in guiitar magazine that Cabo Wabo took a long time to write because they couldn't find a change that would go along after the solo near towards the end ...

well since most hate the song "Once" it doesn't matter but this song took a long time to finish, according to Erwin Musper, one of the sound guys at 5150. BTW, i love the song, flame on
