I'm a little confused here. In the opening line of "5150" what is Sammy saying? In the 5150 booklet is says "The love in me is never straight and narrow." But in the song and in concert it sounds like he's saying what is on van-halen.com: "The love line is never straight and narrow." Why would the booklet with the CD have the wrong lyrics? The lyrics probably get written down when the song is first being worked on, but by the time the song is finished either the singer forgot one of the lines and ad libbed on the spot, or found something better they liked and sang it instead, but probably when the album book is being designed, they just turn over the original lyrics and they don't always have the change notated on them. Just a theory!

Yeh, I've seen heaps of albums that have the wrong lyrics listed. I think the bands just do the album, and at some point the record company says'hey lets put a lyric sheet in', hand it to someone who gets paid peanuts, and away you go.

This is a very common occurrence - I usually go with the lyrics on the official site.

I get amazed when the lyrics are RIGHT inside the booklet

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that too. It's always possible that a singer could change a lyric later on if they thought of something better.

Yeah, "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue is like that. The lyrics read, "You know that I seem, to make romantic dreams, up in lights, fallin' off the silver screen." But Vince Neil clearly sings "You know that I've seen, too many romantic dreams, up in lights, fallin' off the silver screen".

I wouldn't trust those lyric sheets as far as I could throw 'em. ('Course their made of paper, and paper's hard to throw... )

BTW, I think you're right about that 5150 lyric, Dan/Glenn.
