    IMO (LOL).

Name the 10 Songs/Titles that contain a non-traditional sound, such as EVH using a beer can as slide on "Intruder" (there...you only have to name 9 now, hehe). Non-traditional is any non-instrument or the use of an instrument in an 'unusual' way or method.

I have looked at the entire catalog (did not listen, though) to come up w/ the answer. If someone has something different that I have missed, I will definitely 'credit' the answer.

    Good luck.

    1. Intruder (wow, that was easy)
    2. Runnin With the Devil-car horns
    3. Without You-Ed used a quarter
    4. Dirty Water Dog-Ed used a brush
    5. Strung Out-Eddie using batteries etc on a piano
    6. Dancing in the Streets-Mini moog synth

Are any of these what you're talking about? Great question.

    10. Get Up-Ed's low E string was actually a bass string.

That's ten Olen. How many are right?

So far, the one's I had in mind that have been mentioned are:

    Runnin' With the Devil
    Intruder
    Poundcake
    Dirty Water Dog
    Strung Out

I debated whether Without You should be #11, but for a different reason than Glenn noted. I did not know that EVH used a quarter in that song. I had thought he used a stone on another song from III, but the quarter is new info to me. What I DID consider in Without You is the opening set of harmonics, which Ed creates by taking the side of the pick and starting at the front pickup, slides the pick across the G, B and E strings, making a wave-like motion toward the back pickup. For that, I will give credit (yeah for Glenn), but it still leaves five songs or titles left.

As for the others mentioned, here are my reasons NOT to include them:

Dancing in the Streets-Mini moog synth - it is an instrument used in a normal way.

Tora! Tora! - backwards recording is not really something I considered, although on some level by trying to differentiate this from the other 'methods' may be splitting hairs. When Its Love has the same 'method' as well, I believe at the beginning of the solo (if memory serves me).

And the Cradle Will Rock - although strange, a synth through an amp is not really as 'out there' as this question called for (everything's relative, I guess).

Get Up - and the 100 other songs EVH has used some goofy string configuration would be tough to calculate, LOL!! I would have to count the days when EVH saw a Gibson tremelo in half on an ES-335, to where the trem worked only on the G, B and E strings.

Here are some hints for the other five:
    One is from 1984
    Three are from Balance
    One is from III

Good job so far, folks!! Sorry if I am nitpicking.

Baluchitherium: Ed actually had his dog bark into a mic, and put it in somewhere near the end of the song. It's very hard to distinguish, and somewhat distorted, but it's there, he said it in an interview. Plus, there's a lot of weird shit in that song, I'll have to read up on it.

Take Me Back (Deja Vu): There are wind chimes at the beginning, and I think in the last two, or just the last chorus there is a car horn coinciding with Sammys singing, it beeps like twice. It's pretty cool sounding.

Sorry Wolfman, but he didn't. The debate in some circles is it a quarter, or a rock his boy found. Out
My edit. I meant to say stone. A rock would be a bitch to play guitar with. OUT.
