Which Van Halen songs are played in D?(Key of D is the high E tuned down 1 1/2 steps to D) You know I've been playing in D all my life and I still don't know? Are there any? I would think like maybe "Unchained" but that would be the only one.

I threaded this in 101 hopeing that maybe it would stay for it's intulectualness.

So yah, like Unchained, Me Wise Magic, and On-Fire would be my guesses. What about you guys?

All right, I'm a music theory geek so I'm going to get technical now. Saying a song is in the key of D and saying Ed's got his guitars in D tuning are completely different things. Key of D major has two accidentals (F and C) while Key of D minor has one flat (B) plus there's melodic minor and harmonic minor so even just saying Key Of D's kind of vague. Just thought I'd correct, don't mean to sound like a know-it-all but again, I'm a music theory geek.

NB, I'm more than happy to leave it here in the 101 Forum for you.

Of course, after reading Vic's response, I couldn't move this thread anyway. I'm way too to remember how.

Dude you are a geek, ... Can't you read what I wrote?

The High E is dropped to D. Hence the name Dropped D! That's it. That's all it is you pudwacker. LOL ... Everything else is in standard tuning.

Off the top of my head, some songs that use the Dropped D tuning would be "Hear About It Later," "Sinner's Swing," "Dirty Movies," "Can't Get This Stuff No More," and I think "5150".

By the way it's the LOW E that is dropped ONE step down to D. Not the high E. But I guess everthing in your world is "high" No Bozos.

Stinging comeback, chronic cock smoker, using a Ferris Bueller quote. Wow, you've got me all figured out, I'm amazed. BTW, hasn't living in Mom and Dad's basement all your life taught you to spell? It's D-E-F-I-N-I-T-E.
