Atomic Punk is probably one of my favorite Van Halen tunes... Everytime i hear it i wonder what DLR is talking about. There's one point where it sounds like he's saying something about "hulk" as in the incredible hulk possibly? This might sound stupid. Anyone know what he's really talking about?

I think thats a song all about Dave. I think thats how he percieves his own persona.

The Atomic punk is rock'n roll, in particular loud guitar rock'n roll. The stuff that parents hate and nobody understands but speaks to a certain type of person.

Like when Elvis came along and shook his hips or the beatles and the stones with their so-called LONG hair..
It's a rebel instinct that you can't escape because it's everywhere, like Dave sings in the song "I'm in your heads... and your beds"..
This was the late '70s at the dawn of the '80s vibe..ATOMIC.meaning a new version of Elvis shaking his hips,...in your face..

I agree though, it's a great song, and very unique in it's imagery compared to most of Dave's lyrics.

I'm guessing the line he is referring to is "On every wall and place my fearsome name is hung"

The VHE says that Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love and Loss of Control were written to poke fun at punk music.

I always thought it was the former lyric that was correct. At least it is when I sing (screech, massacre) it.

You guys may very well be right - I just copied and pasted the lyrics from Mushroom World without listening to verify and, well, that place isn't known for its 100% accuracy.

And anyway, my actual answer to the question of this thread would be "three minutes"!
