Hey, just wondering if in late 1979 or early 1980 when they were preparing Women and Children First, was there ever any thought of calling it Van Halen III? Did they go away from that because of Led Zep naming their albums that way? It's funny because if you think about it, if they had, that would have made Fair Warning Van Halen 4, number 4 being considered by many to be the ultimate Zeppelin album. And many people, myself included, consider Fair Warning to be the ultimate VH album. Anyway, I got off topic a bit, sorry. Anybody know about the first part?

As far as I remember, Led Zeppelin 4 was not called 4, but simply "Led Zeppelin"... people nicknamed it "4" just like we nickname "Van Halen" "Van Halen I". Am I correct?

Yeah, you're right Doc, Atlantic gave Zep a real hard time about that album. Obviously the second part of my point is hypothetical, so the fact that it wasn't really called Led Zep 4 doesn't really matter. It was more of a parallel I was drawing between each bands fourth record being considered by many to be their crowning glory.

Well I do remember Dave saying something when VHIII was released. It was something along the lines of "Van Halen III? I thought we already had that...It was called WACF." All joking aside, I don't know if they ever actually considered calling it III or not. I'm kind of glad they didn't.

Those number-title albums, always seemed a bit stale 'n redundant to me. Album title names like "Women And Children First" "Fair Warning" and "Diver Down" always conjure up imagery to go with the music. I suppose it's all 'bout presentation.

I think that Ed didn't call WACF "VH III" because he knew he wanted to save that title for later in his career

Calling that piece of crap Eddie released on 3/17/98 "Van Halen III" wasn't a good idea either.

    Better titles would have been...

    "Van Danniels I"
    "The Ray Danniels Project"
    "Eddie Van Halen"
"What the FUCK are we doing this for?"
"Just Kidding! The real album comes out in 2000!"
"Gary Cherone and the Three Stooges"

Van HALEN is: Dave, Eddie, Mikey, Alex. Any questions?

Most people just refer to it as Stairway To Heaven.

And the album wasn't even called Led Zeppelin.
It was originally released with no name or title.

I read an interview with Alex where he wanted to call Balance III because as he said we never had an album called III. I also read where Eddie wanted to call ou812 rock and roll.
