I have a feeling "yes" is the answer. Did I like someone else first? Yes. Before VH, I liked ZZ Top. Cool band and still has all of it's original members. 1969 and still not in the R and R Hall of Fame! I found VH around the time Balance came out. FUCK was my first CD. When I was reading Columbian House's review of Balance I was surprised to see Eddie was not the lead singer. I didn't know anything about them at that time. I didn't even know for sure if they sang Jump. I'm dumb, but I was only 2 when Jump came out!

Van Halen is far and away my favorite band. No other band even comes close, though I do listen to other stuff.

Ditto for me. I listen to a wide range of music, but VH is FAR above the others. I can't think of any other band except VH that I care about what happens - musically or personally. I can't imagine going through the trouble of finding websites/forums, etc. searching for info on anyone else.

No. Definitely top 5 but the three words 'Made in Japan' changed my life in 1978. Deep Purple for me.......so did you get into any other their stuff Glenn?

Jonathan, I checked out Made In Japan. Highway Star rocks, but then I already was familiar with it. I also really liked Child In Time. I found it funny when one of the guys used the phrase "everything louder than everything else". Stupid me, I love that phrase but I thought Meat Loaf (and therefore Jim Steinman) came up with it. I was interested to hear that it's a much older phrase than I'd thought.

I finally got Napster a while back, so any other Purple tunes you want to recommend, feel free and I'll check them out.

I'm on pins and needles waiting for the return of the ultimate rock & roll band. They like all the bands of that era rock like no others. The 90's was a major downfall for rock and roll because these lame no fun to listen to bands dominated the scene even when bands like VH tried to keep the fun times going. Let's hope VH's return means a return to music that was fun to listen to. I hate the Woa is me music that the pathetic 90's bands came out with. The 70's and 80's eras were the best musically. Let's hope for a return of the fun and VH can deliver!

Van Halen is and will always be tops on my list. Led Zeppelin is probably 2nd, but still nowhere near VH.

Goo, haven't we all told you to get off the narcotics?

VH for me (what a shock). I'm an official convert as of the early '90s when For UCK was still pretty new. If you think commercialism is bad, it was the Crystal Pepsi ads that won me over - just because I heard Right Now, then later managed to connect it to VH.

Scary thing is I knew Jump (I was 4-5 at the time), but it took me something like two years to connect Jump to the VH I was listening to

Ah, poor little 11 year old me, so nieve. God bless my brother for having OU812 and 1984 on CD as well though

Generally I prefer their live stuff but you probably don't want to download 30 minute noodlefests.....yet

Studiowise my fav album is Fireball which they didn't use much for live shows. Try these:

    No One Came - Fireball
    Fools - Fireball
Slow Train - Fireball 25th anniversary version. Blackmore/Lord best call and response on a studio album IMO
Hard Lovin' Man - In Rock
Flight of the Rat - In Rock
Speed King - In Rock. But get a Euro version with the Blackmore/Lord intro which was cut from the US release
Pictures of Home - Machine Head
Mary Long - Who Do We Think We Are
    Rat Bat Blue - WDWTWA
    Burn - Burn
You Fool No One - Burn
    Perfect Strangers - Perfect Strangers

.....for starters, and then get the rest

Iron Maiden is still my favorite band. But there's a lot more to talk about about VH than Maiden these days, so here I am.

There's too much music that I like to pick favourite anythings - songs, albums, videos or bands. But Van Halen was definitely one of my favourites up until 1985 and although I've always liked those first 6, with nothing new to interest me they kind of fell out of favor and didn't spend as much time in the CD player - don't even remember when I got the CDs, but I doubt that they were some of the first ones that I replaced from vinyl. But got reinterested in 1996 and since I've been on this forum (the only rock 'n roll forums I visit involve this band) I've been playing those albums a lot more and I do have plans to get the other albums, but probably not until they're remastered.
