Everybody who knows Van Halen should know that everything started going downhill when Ed Leffler died, he handled Sammys solo days and then moved on to VH, he was clearly their safety net and managed to keep egos at bay. It was clear too that when Ed was alive the band were happy and were close as anything. Man! They were great times between 86 and 93 and will never be revisited even if Sam does come back to the fold. Seriously, you gotta look at the facts. Ed died, Eddies insecurities were at its peak, he quit drinking, they got Ray Daniels who screwed up the situation more, Sam had to do "Unboxed" to get Eddie more fired up. Why! Why! Why! did all this have to happen after Ed died, he would be rolling in his grave now after all the shit thats gone down. VH still are the greatest, I just hope they can pull something out the can soon but they will never resurrect the old Ed Leffler days.

I think Ray Daniels influnce was far more damaging than Leffler's death but essentially what you are saying has a lot of truth.

I don't think he had a reputation as being the best.

The most succesful band he had was Rush, and managing Rush is like coaching a team Charles Barkley plays for. It's redundant.

Rush continues to draw because of the band they are. Ray has never lit the fires of promotion for that band, or any that I can think of.

Extereme has only really one mainstream single and King's X still inhabit the realm of cult status.
not another dime from me, fellas...
