Okay, after listening to BoV1 again recently, I decided I needed to do a poll in here.

The question primarily goes out to those who prefer the DLR flavor of VH the most, but everyone is welcome to answer.

    Here's the question:

For those of you who really enjoy either CGtSNM or MWM (or both), do you also enjoy Humans Being?

I've got my reasons for asking, but I'd kind of like to see a few answers before stating them.

Actually I love all 3 of them . Classic Van Halen songs . Those songs are the only songs I listen to when I listen to Best Of

For the other songs , I listen to them of off their own cd

Humans Being is an awesome song.

Not sure if there's more that can be said about it.

I thought all three of those songs were some of the best stuff VH had done in years. It was like they finally got some of the "attitude" back.

I thought it would carry over to VHIII, but I guessed wrong.

All three are awesome songs. Humans Being is more vital than any other song they did with Sammy. Soundwise it is really explosive and you can feel the emotion coming off of it.

I like all three of these songs but Humans Being is my favorite.

Humans Being was definitely one of Van Hagar's brightest moments. It should have been on Balance instead of "Can't Stop Cheesing You"

Yep Humans still gets me all pumped up when I listen to it. I'm one of the few, I guess, that prefers CGTSNM over MWM any day of the week. I've always thought that Humans, and CGTSNM are two of the best songs they've ever done. Just my goofy opinion btw. Out.

I dig all three, but Humans Being is probably my favorite with CGTSNM right behind.

(I like MWM too, but CGTSNM always meant a little more to me because the title made me nostalgic for Classic VH after the '96 VMA's. )

Okay, since we got some healthy replies, here's my reasoning.

Pop in the CD in listen to HB, then go straight into CGTSNM. The thing that jumps right out at me is that they flow - they definitely sound like they came off of the same album, same time period, whatever.

And since so many people love HB, it kind of backs up my theory that, for the most part, it isn't so much SAMMY that bugs people, it was the direction Eddie chose to take his playing in.

Humans Being is one of the VERY few Hagar era songs that I would mention in the same breath with the Diamond Dave years. So, yeah, I liked it. Yes it did seem like a natural progression from it to Can't Get.. and Me Wise...

Stuff said..."And since so many people love HB, it kind of backs up my theory that, for the most part, it isn't so much SAMMY that bugs people, it was the direction Eddie chose to take his playing in."

Not true Stuff. Sorry. It's still Sammy cheesy lyrics that piss so many people off. These lyrics were more-or less forced on him and drug out of him from Ed. This is taken from an interview with Ed. Found it on the new interviews page here at the links...

...Then, like I said, things got really ridiculous when we started working on the music for Twister, Alex had called up the director, Jan De Bont, to ask him how closely he wanted the lyrics of the song that became "Humans Being" to be related to the movie's context, De Bont said "Oh, please don't write about tornadoes. I don't want this to be a narrative for the movie." So we put him in contact with Sam, who called me and said, "I had agreat conversation with De Bont and everything is cool." Then - maybe two seconds after I got off the phone with Sammy -- De Bont was like, "Uh, Sammy is a little strange. I kept telling him that he shouldn't write any lyrics about tornadoes, but he still kept insisting that I fax him tornado-related technical jargon. Does Sammy just want to learn about twisters for his own personal reasons?" I said, "Beats the hell out of me." And so what does Sammy come back with? "Sky is turning black, knuckles turning white, headed for the hot zone." It was total tornado stuff! Not only did Alex tell him not to do that, but the director of the fucking movie told him, "Do not write about tornadoes." The situation with Sammy was so bad that I had to warn Bruce not to let him know that I had come up with the title and the melody, because if he found out that he would have completely turned off. When ever I suggested something to sammy, he would just stop talking to me."
    ____________________________________________

Actually I can't believe he didn't work a "JIVE" in the song somewhere!!
