It dawned on me that U2 is charging (mostly) $100-$150 to see them. I am a big PJ Harvey fan but could not get a $45 floor ticket. So how much do you expect Ed, Alex and Dave will charge us to see them together? I am disgusted by the U2 prices. And I do not think I would be interested if it cost over $100. Hell that's too much! I spent $65 on a box seat at Shoreline in '91 to see Jane's Addiction and that was very much worth it. But I am sketch on $100 for some over-aged rock stars. How much would ya'll spend?

No more than $50. VH may be the greatest band ever, but I have better ways to spend my parent's money.

Realistically, if their management used their brains on this one, they would stand best at pricing the event low. Say, most expensive ticket being $25.

Now, granted they wouldn't stand to clear much in ticket sales after you split the revenues with the venue itself, but the fact it's the first VH/DLR tour since the years of 1984-1985 it only stands to reason this will be a huge draw. Hardcore and not so hardcore fans that prefer the Roth era will flock back to the show, and hardcore fans that never saw the Roth live act will flock as well. Basically if they book creatively (and don't double up too many cities - at least not contiguously) they could sell out every US show.

Now, everyone will want to have the t-shirt from the reunion, especially if they fear there might not be another VH tour. Merchandise sales for the band will be through the roof which should easily cover the costs of the tour and allow the members to pocket enough money to recoop from the cost of the album. Plus they generate good will in the fan base and can get away with higher ticket prices next time, and the lower price serves to ensure a sell-out.

Besides, it's not like they're poor in any sense of the word.

I have to tell you guys. Van Halen is bigger then U2 in the US. ( Well maybe not in the last three years.) Being that this tour is a reunion after 17 years and they are certainly looking to cash in more then get together, the cheapest nose bleeds will be about $75.00 starting.

At the same time if I knew i was going to hear: a bunch of II, WACF and FW, I might have to take the plunge. Then again if I knew they were going to play Jump, it would make not going a much easier.

Well if this year's Bon Jovi tour is any indication........look for tickets in the $75-100 range.

Bought tickets to take the old lady to see Bon Jovi in Phoenix and Las Vegas....OUCH!!!

The Phoenix tickets were $75 bucks each for the level we were sitting. The closer tickets were $90. I paid $100 each for the Vegas show and their were tickets that were $150 each. Both shows are close to selling out too.

Seriously, I hope they keep them low, but if they come to my town, I'll pay anything because I've never seen them with Dave before, and being in a secondary market, I may never see them again. I'm not going to miss out just over the principle of trying to save $50.

I'd probably pay 80 or 90 Aussie dollars (which is about US$2!! lol! - nahh, its really about US$40-45 - our dollar just hit an all-time low)

Slightly off the topic, do you guys reckon VH will tour out here to Oz? They did for the VHIII tour but that was their first time and they never have with Dave. I don't think I'll be able to take it if you guys are all talking about how cool the show was and I missed out!!

That cute Picture that Ron Dangle posts comes to mind on this.

This is America now--$100 easy, which means I will be gong to the show by myself since I can afford two tickets. Sorry Mrs. Wombat you get the kids.

I think that bands and promoters rationalize high prices. It goes something like this... Limited tickets available and lots of fans. Raise the prices high enough, and only the "real" fans will want to pay enough to go to the shows. This makes sure long-time fans get the seats they need, and that the promoters make a good profit.
