In response to a "Message from the Band - Translations" post I unleashed earlier today, someone by the name "VHInsider" posted the following on the Yahoo/Onelist:

In a message dated 04/20/2001, tanjo@i... writes:
> Ed's health is about the only reason I would accept.

whew! Thanks! That's mighty white of you!

> Jodey
> It's Dave or the Grave!

What a catchy phrase.

Let me present you with a purely hypothetical situation.

Lets say Ed was worse than was let on at some and his treatments made him
feel pretty shitty too.

Lets say Dave (in his usual selfish way) wasn't concerned about Edward's
health problems and made that vocal in that he wasn't satisfied with the
"speed" of things.

Lets say at that point everyone told Dave to go fuck himself.

Lets say Daves been sitting at home trying to figure out how or if to say
"sorry Ed".

Lets say Dave decided (because he's known for making such great decisions)
not to say "sorry Ed" but instead decided to try and back them into a corner
with his statement.

Lets say Ed, Al and Mike just say "fuck it".

We all lose.

Now are you still going to go kill yourself?

I'm not sure I am comfortable with "Ed's health" - and this aint me being pissed at the whole situation.. . Which I am not - I am fucking livid with their lack of communication.

If it was Ed's health - than Van Halen should have said, "Listen folks - Ed's got to go through some treatments - and that will take a bit." Our hearts, best wishes and support would have gone out to him.

Also - most people have said that Ed's health was over exagerated - INCLUDING Gary - who by the sounds of things - is the only former lead singer of Van Halen that is friends with the guys.
Winners come and go; legends are forever.

This isn't information from the band, it could have been anyone, so i'm not sure that it can be trusted.

I am moving this topic to Speculations.
Right Now you're reading my post!

I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

Yeah, well all this "VHInsider provided us with was more speculative, beat-around-the-bush and no balls to just fucking come right out and CLEARLY STATE SOMETHING.

So thanks to them for nothing.

"Hypothetically speaking" ( ), they're just another spineless prick tease.

After today's mass hysteria, I think we're going to have to put up with a whole new batch of rumormongers, or the same old people with a bag of new tricks.
I'm one of those crazies on your block.

As I am qualified (in my opinion anyway) to comment on the health issue, I will do so here...

If Ed's condition was or is worse than we are led to believe, I can understand his reluctance to let everyone know about it. When I was diagnosed, I was 16. Had I gone around and told everyone, I would have been inundated with all sorts of things: excessive attention, cards, flowers, jokes, attacks, special treatment from people, etc. I did not want that.

I was reluctant to even bring it up here, but I figure this was as good a time and place to mention it. The physical stress of disease, and especially cancer, is MONUMENTAL. They pretty much bring you to the threshold of death in an effort to save your life. Either you survive the treatments or you don't. If you're lucky, as I have been, you get through it, but your body is never the same again.

Emotionally, you have to come to grips with your own mortality, AND be willing to meet your fate at any given moment. You realize that a lot of people are going to have a hard time dealing with that thought; it's out of courtesy to THEM that you keep as quiet about it as you possibly can.

Mentally, well, your thoughts are consumed by the physical and emotional aspects of the disease. It becomes a struggle to function as a 'normal' person.

If Ed was more ill than we know, then trust my experience and insight, it would have MAJOR effects on his life as a whole, and having the whole world know is just one more burden for him to bear. People are whining all over the place about who the singer is and when the cd is coming it, while Ed might be dealing with FAR greater concerns.

I blatantly lied to people about what I was going through, both for their own good and mine. When I had to miss 8 weeks of school, the note from home and the doctor said I had complications from mononucleosis. There was no need for everyone to know the truth.

So, if Eddie's health is the real issue here, every action that band has or has not taken is perfectly acceptable and understandable to me.

If Ed is as healthy as the reports say, then my post doesn't quite apply. But, I honestly don't think we'll ever know the whole truth behind it. I, for one, am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt in this case.
Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.
