I was just wondering what everyones thinking is concerning the possibility of a permanent reunion between Dave and VH. Do you think it's one album and tour or will it be for the duration of VH's career. I'm hoping that it will be a permanent one. VH should finish the way they started and that's with Dave at the helm.

I'd love to see it last the rest of Van Halens' career. At first I'm inclined to believe that it won't last very long, but not knowing any of the people involved personally, I can't say. I never would have thought Dave would return in 96 and it happened. And after 96, I never would have believed they'd get together again, but it seems like that's what's happening. I'm just going to be thankful for what they give us, and not expect anything beyond that.

However, I will not be giving up my box set dream.

I just hope that Dave isn't with VH for the rest of their career and that him being there for just 1 tour aren't the same thing. See what I mean?? I want Dave to be there forever, but I mean that I hope this isn't their last tour ever. I guess that made sense

I think these days things in VH land are really done on a day-to-day basis.
if they go out on the road and havea good time and don't piss each other off more than any band on the road pisses each other off. then they go onto another record/tour. and so on...

i think dave summed it up best. he ssaid (i think in his book) hey he doesn't have to be their best pal to make music with them. ed and al sometimes i think take the whole thing way too seriously. it's music for God's sake. just go out have a good time. when the show's over go back to your respective rooms, etc and meet up the next day for sound check.

that's what made Vh great to begin with. 4 diverse personalities. why on earth would they get along?

    that also creates incredible music.

If Van Halen wants to prolong their careers, they stay with Roth. Life after Singer #3, if history is any guide, isn't long and isn't pretty. Hopefully this is the actual "final lineup" of Van Halen.

I don't think it will last. I don't think any singer will last after going through three in VH. Maybe a album or two. I'm moving this to VH Opinions.

We're talking about 4 guys in their mid to late 40's. Two of them are in less than perfect health. Their days as a band are unfortunately numbered no matter what they do. (Sorry to be a pessimist but I just don't see them going till 60 like the Stones)

They know they have no future at all with any other singer. This is their chance to restore the credibility they have lost during the last 4 years (arguably the last 15)

And besides, it's gonna FUCKING ROCK!!

    5 years
A new album will come out next year followed by a tour and a late fall of 2001 release of live material. The tour will last close to 2 years then a break will ensue for a couple years then one last album and a year long tour. I wish it would be longer, but these guys are getting up there and by 5 years their pockets will be seriously lined. I feel like it would be an amicable split/retire situation for another 5 or so years and then they would reconvene for another short time. The "newness" of reuniting will definitely be gone by then.
This is similar to how the Stones and/or Kiss have done it anyway. Seems to be a R-n-R pattern.
I just hope that VH doesn't do the merchandising ala' Kiss thing. They obviously went way to far.

Except Kiss was always about marketing, so the merchandising on their reunion didn't surprise me at all. I will say that the Psycho Circus video game was every bit as lame as the Psycho Circus album though.

At least we know that Eddie and Alex will actually be the ones playing the guitar and drums on the new Van Halen album, and not studio hacks like Psycho Circus, Dynasty, and half the other Kiss albums. Kiss should have given up in 1978 when they knew they were no longer the number one rock band in America, and in a sense they did. After that, they never made another full album as a band.

i'm with limecuda on this one.

i think we can get 5 more years easy. they will definitely give us 2 more cd's. the question is, which one will be the farewell one??

with ed having the family now, and the same with mike, a long tour will take it's toll and we know dave likes to keep working. we'll just have to wait and see....
